Bridesmaid Gifts: How much to spend?

Hilary, on June 6, 2017 at 11:42 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 29

I have 6 BMs in my wedding and I was wondering, how much money should you spend on each for their gift? I don't want to spend an arm and a leg but I also don't want to be cheap, either. Any input is appreciated, thanks! Smiley smile

I have 14 girls and I budgeted $50 ea . With coupons and different sales I was able to get them B&BW Sets , pj sets , Starbucks Gift Cards and a mini liquor bottle of their favorite liquor. I would suggest buying gifts that works for each individual person .

I'm not sure what the correct amount is, but I got each of my girls a monogrammed pool cover-up, and personalized tumbler. so about $45 each. I also purchased their jewelry, and wedding shoes but those don't count as gifts.

I was told to shop for them like it's their birthday. With that being said, you know each of your BMs personally and you know what they would all like. Maybe $10-$15 on each BM with a personal hand written note.

    ETA: I'm a cheap bish.

I would do at least $100 per person. These people are spending a ton of money on you - shower gift, bachelorette, wedding gift, bridesmaid dress, and all that goes into the wedding day.

I had 4 and spent about $115 each. I don't think there's a hard and fast rule here, as long as you aren't gifting them things that are really for the wedding (i.e. floral getting ready robes, etc.).

ETA - Just to give you an idea of what I purchased for each: a Kate Spade watch (each one had a different one that fit their personality), Kate Spade glitter stud earrings (not for the wedding) and a cute travel make-up bag that had a funny saying on it (again, all were different for their individual personalities). I did buy them each a floral robe for getting ready pictures but they were not packaged in their gift, as it wasn't a part of it.

I've spent about $50 so far per bm. What has worked well for me has been slowly adding items to their presents as I come across things that speak to me and seem like them. With about 5 months to go I may add a couple little things (like some bath bombs) but I'm also comfortable with the gift size if I don't come across anything else.

Thank you everyone! I've definitely been reading the forums and won't be doing the robes or jewelry for the day. I really like the idea of buying them something individual like it's their birthday. I think that will make it even more fun for me because I love searching for individual gifts for people that I think they will love.

I only have two ladies in my wedding party, so that gives me more room in my budget to treat them to something special. I also plan to write them a handwritten note.

    @Hilary

You can still do the robes or jewelry if you want that for pictures, but consider those props and give actual gifts as well. Mine are getting matching monogrammed button pj sets and Kate Spade earrings. For their gift portion, they are all getting Kate Spade silver picture frames.

The "correct amount" is whatever you can afford to give them. If all you can afford is a heartfelt note and a bottle of their favorite wine, that's what you can afford and I'm sure they'd be so grateful to receive that.

On actual gifts not related to the wedding I spent probably $150 on each of my 4. I also am paying for their hair and makeup, AirBnb the night before the wedding, wedding day jewelry, and I bought their dresses.

I spent $100 each on my two moh - and $65 for each of my 3 bridesmaids - the retail value was higher ($150/100) but got things on sale

I think if they're throwing you a shower/bach that should factor into your gift too

I think I'll probably end up spending $50-$75 on mine -- I'm doing a bottle of their favorite liquor/wine ($30-$40ish), a mug ($20), and a makeup bag ($15). I had really wanted to go all out with robes and stuff as well but I just don't think I'll be able to swing it at this point -- oh well! I think it is also a good idea to try to pick things up as you guy so that way if it gets close to the wedding and things are adding up quickly you won't have to worry about the bridesmaid gifts at least.

Spend whatever you can afford. If that is $20, that's fine as long as it's in line with the rest of the wedding (AKA no multi-thousand-dollar ice sculpture and skimpy Starbucks card for your nearest and dearest.)

I spent about $70-$110 on each member of my wedding party. They each have completely different tastes and are receiving completely different gifts, so no one could possibly know that the items cost different amounts. I just bought each person what I thought they would like in the $100 and under range (one gift was a bit more than that when shipping charges were added on.)

I spent about 75$ on each BM, both moms (actually my moms was probably double that by the end..but she paid for most of the wedding) and my 3 flowergirls. I would have loved to do more, but just couldn't swing it financially.

As part of my bridesmaid gift, I am paying for a portion of their dresses and they all are super grateful for that! I obviously will get them something else smaller but I have been in a million weddings and hated paying 200 some dollars on a dress I'll never wear again. There's tons of different options out there

I haven't decided on a dollar amount or the gift yet. I plan to spoil my MOH because I've known her for 25 years and she went above and beyond for my shower and I assume it will be a similar situation for my bachelorette. To thank her for my shower I got her a rollerball perfume, face mask, and fancy body scrub, so about $80 on that. Things I'm not really considering as a gift: I made my BMs hangers and tanks for the bachelorette party. I plan on getting them robes, but nothing fancy. To ask them to be my BM I gave them a personalized tumbler (just their names), sugarfina champagne gummy bears, and lip gloss.

My FSIL suggest anything Chanel and jewelry to wear on my wedding day, but that's a big no no to everyone on these forums. I'll be getting them individual gifts to suit their personality, but I hate shopping for gifts so I'm having a hard time deciding. My budget is $60-100 each. For my MOH's gift I'm thinking up to $250 and considering a simple Tiffany's necklace.

I spent about $50-$60 each on personal gifts in addition to buying earrings for the wedding and paying for their hair and makeup. If I wasn't planning on paying for that I probably would've spent a bit more on personal gifts.
