Bridesmaid Gifts - how much to spend and where to buy?

Private_User790, on June 10, 2016 at 1:55 PM Posted in Planning 0 28

I had planned to get my bridesmaids silky robes to get ready in and really pretty barefoot sandals to wear at the wedding. I had no idea how much the silky robes would cost from Plum Pretty Sugar.

Any suggestions on where to buy silky robes for less but still nice quality? I'm also open to other ideas for gifts that won't break the bank. I had planned to spend around $50 on each girl.

I bought mine on ebay. They came from overseas so took like a month to get there. I spent $9 each on them. Just look up kimono robes (color). Here's what mine looked like.

Since those are for the wedding, I would get something for your bridesmaids like you would for their birthday also. Something to use OUTSIDE of the wedding.

The general consensus on WW is that anything to be used for the wedding does not constitute a bridesmaid "gift." Those are things you are basically requiring them to use/wear. Think of their bridesmaid gifts more as things you would buy for their birthday.

Emma - Thanks for the link! I'm probably going to get the robes there.

SoonToBeDames - great advice. I definitely didn't think of it like that. I'm not requiring the sandals and I haven't decided on them for sure. The robes are just a fun way to pamper the girls, some have even asked for it so not a complete surprise. I plan to add a few smaller gifts to the one really nice one.

I am not sure of the robes 100% but I know that there is a pretty cheap site that a lot of people on here recommend! Hopefully someone with a better memory with me will respond and help you out. I agree with adding a few smaller personal gifts for the girls! It will go nicely with the robe and sandals. I have seen a lot of cute barefoot sandals on Etsy.

AliExpress has really cheap robes too if you want to do them! I think they are around $8-$9!

I was thinking of getting my girls necklaces or something like that that wouldn't necessarily be for the wedding but something nice they could wear other places - I'd found some really unique ones that I really like/think they would like.

Seeing other people's posts though it seems people get their BMs like whole gift bags of stuff and now I'm kind of worried just one thing might not be enough...?

I thought about doing shirts/robes but felt like they'd be limited to wear them just around the wedding time. I've decided to make a gift box with wine and these cute Kate Spade bracelets.

I'm getting my MOH a piece of jewellery, most likely a necklace. I plan to spend around $100.00 and an flexible to spend a bit more if I find the right one.

TheLori - I'm a bridesmaid in my friend's wedding (the whole reason I'm here), and I know for me, I don't care about only getting one thing, as long as that one thing isn't something expected for the wedding!

A lot of brides say the robe is part of the gift, but unless your bridal party loves satin robes, and you would buy one for her birthday, it's not really a gift for them. It's just something you want them to wear while they're posing for your photos.

    Edited because words are tough.

I got kimono style robes for my girls, flower girls, and myself from the wish app. There were so many colors to choose from and I adore them! They were about $10 ea w/ shipping

I was also wondering how much people on average were spending. So far I have gotten them Vera Bradley bags but I want to fill the bag up. Not completely because they are big duffle bags (and now I'm really poor haha), but some nice things to fill them out.

I found some robes pretty cheap (about $15 each) online at Nordstrom rack. I also got my bridesmaids necklaces.

My family friend made gorgeous vintage bracelets that took months to make and honestly I feel that's more special than running out and buying one. The bracelet, gorgeous earrings, and robes are their gifts and they will love them.

I bought these robes from Macy's for just under $30 each. The white one for me and the other for my girls.

My two favorite gifts for being an honor attendant were: a glass with the couple's name and date on it-- would have cherished that, but it broke in my suitcase on the way home. 8-( Also, another friend gave me a framed picture of us at the wedding-- marriage is long over, but I still have the pic! Both of those cost less than $20, I'm sure. I also got as gift once (but not for being an attendant) a pre-stocked toiletry kit, which i *love*. I don't have to stop on think if I've got floss and a toothbrush and shampoo, etc-- the bag is ready to go, I just have to grab it! I expect that cost $30-40.
