Bridesmaid Gift Cost

C, on May 28, 2021 at 12:18 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 9

How much is appropriate to spend on a bridesmaid gift? I spent $50-$60 for each girl when I asked them to be a bridesmaid. I was thinking for their gift on the wedding day I would get them a nice necklace (Around $90 each) and also a robe to get ready in (not monogrammed and $20-$75 each depending on what I go with).

Is that too much to spend for bridesmaid gifts? We're doing a destination bachelorette and they all have to fly in for the wedding but no one has helped much or offered to help with any planning for the wedding (understood that that can't be expected). Trying to show my appreciation but not overspend. Thank you for any advice!

This is food for thought for people wanting lots of bridesmaids because costs add up. And also why a thank you gift is more appreciated than proposal boxes.

There is no magic dollar amount. You set your own budget. Definitely get something quality that fits their individual interests that is not a prop for pictures that they will keep long after the wedding is over. That also means nothing engraved with names/date/titles.
Jewelry and robes are props for your pictures, not a gift for them. What are their interests and hobbies?

Thank you! The necklaces aren't for them to wear in the wedding, just something I know they will enjoy as they all wear lots of necklaces Smiley smile They are also necklaces with real gemstones from a nice jeweler. I can afford the gifts, just wondering proper amount

I think this is perfect, and like Michelle said, it’s not about the dollar amount anyway, it’s about you recognizing your bridesmaids which you are. Love your idea!

I bought Coach Wristlets for my 8 bridesmaids for my 1st wedding. They were about $40 each.

I don’t think there’s any minimum amount you have to spend, nor is there any amount that is “too much”. I have been the BM/MOH in lots of weddings, and I have received gifts that were anywhere from $50 to over $1,000. The most important part is that the gift is thoughtful and tailored to that individual.

While those are generous things to do, a necklace and robe for the wedding day/getting ready aren’t really gifts. Those aren’t things they’d likely purchase or want outside of your wedding. If you want to get them a true gift, get them something they would have picked out for themselves - similar to a birthday/Xmas gift.

Though proposal gifts are not necessary, it is too late to take them back. The other completely unnecessary one is a robe or PJ's. Just ask each to wear something, maybe dark leggings, and a button down shirt. Nicer to wear your own clothes than those chosen for a group. And no issues with those who will not wear a pic of themselves partially dressed on the internet.

There is no magic amount because every couple’s budget is different. Figure out what you can afford. For some $50 per person is too expensive and for others $50 might be a penny in the bucket.
