Bridesmaid floor length hem

April, on July 12, 2022 at 11:14 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 8
Hi! I’m trying to figure out if a 1 inch from the ground hem is the length that’s best to go with. If it’s 1 inch from the ground, how much of their shoes show? If y’all could drop some photos of the different lengths you had your bridesmaids hem their dresses to it’d be super helpful! Thank you!

I think floor length is best. Ankle length and lower look to me like the dress is accidentally too short. I'll see if I can find pictures from my sister's wedding.

^ I agree with Kelly. I did ankle length and my heels were too high so it didn’t look right. It was still cute, but it did seem like the dress was too short.

I think floor length would be about 1". I'd have your attendants try on their dresses with shoes. If a stiffer fabric like satin, you'd want the dress to fall on the top of the foot (midway) without creating a bend in the fabric (which would look inelegant).

    Bridesmaid floor length hem 1
My and my bridesmaid's dresses were floor-length, and it looks like they're about 1" off the floor. Just make sure they're wearing the shoes they plan on wearing that day when it's getting hemmed so it stays 1". Shoes were only really seen while walking - the toe/upper foot would pop out from under the hem.

I didn't really care about the length, so mine all did it different. One was floor-length, one about an inch off the floor, and one above the ankle (of course it's a suit but a bit shorter than most suit pants because she really wanted to show off those shoes). I think the other person's picture above looks really good if you want a uniform length on everyone. But it's definitely important that they wear the actual shoes when they're getting the dress altered so the hem hits correctly.

Definitely do floor length. An inch off the ground will look like a mistake.

Usually "floor length" gives a bit of space (even if it's just a fraction of an inch) so the dress isn't dragging on the ground or getting stepped on. My 2 cents would be to have them hemmed to floor length and see if whoever is wearing the dress can comfortably walk around. If they're worried about tripping after the dress is hemmed, an extra inch above the ground is definitely worth it for the peace of mind.
