Bridesmaid dropped out, what to do to ask another friend

Danielle & Jeffrey, on February 1, 2017 at 9:41 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 14

I had only allotted 7 spots for the bridal party on either side. I had a friend step down due to personal things going on in her life. I had another friend I wanted to ask but didn't at the time. I would like to ask her now, but don't know how to go about it. Should I write a personal card explaining she was the next person on my list especially after I had ask the bridal party her and I became closer, or should I just ask her the same way I asked them and not even stress about the fact she would be asked as a "second choice"?

Don't ask her. I think if she knew she was a b-listed bridesmaid, she probably wouldn't feel too good.

    ETA: changed my answer.

I wouldn't. She may feel like she is just a 'second choice' and it may hurt her feelings. If you didn't ask her in the first place I wouldn't ask her now just because one stepped down. I understand why you want to but I wouldn't want her to think she was sloppy seconds when the first pick didn't follow through.

Don't add her, there is no nice way to do this. There is nothing wrong with having uneven parties.

How would you feel if someone told you "sorry you weren't important enough to be a bridesmaid to begin with, but don't worry you're my backup!"

Just let her be a guest.

Don't ask her. It would be really hurtful to be asked after the rest of the bridesmaids and know you're a second choice.

Don't replace your original BM. If I were asked after the fact due to someone dropping out I would feel the complete opposite of special. I would feel like I wasn't good enough and like a prop for photos. Just have 6.

That's really rude. Don't b-list. I have 4 bm and he has 5 gm. My friend can't make it at all to the wedding cause her new job. Sides don't have to be even

Not only will the friend you want to ask not be flattered that she was "next on the list" and "bumped up", but your bridesmaid that had to step down is going to feel very replaceable and unimportant should you choose to do this.

You don't replace loved ones. Why is this so hard?

Don't ask her. She probably knows that you already asked the other girls. And if she doesn't, she will find out. How would you feel if you were only asked to be a bridesmaid because someone else said no? It's ok to have uneven sides of the bridal party. Just keep who you originally asked.

I'd have one GM walk alone. It's not uncommon to have uneven numbers.

Do not ask your other friend. She will feel like a second class bridesmaid.

Don't ask her. No one wants to feel like they're second fiddle.

I wouldn't ask her. Being #8 doesn't seem very honored.
