Bridesmaid Dresses

So my mom just offered to pay for my bridesmaids and MOHs dresses! I am so grateful for this as my maid of honor and one of my bridesmaids lives out of state and they all have kids and I really just didn’t want to put the burden of having them get plane tickets and find hotels on top of paying for dresses. I was thinking David’s bridal would be the best place to get bridesmaids dresses because they have David’s bridal‘s locations in the towns where my bridesmaid and maid of honor live so I figured that would be the smartest way to go. It’s very important to me that all of my bridesmaids and my maid of honor have Dresses they really like and feel comfortable in. I’m trying to think of things to keep in mind like, will they need to buy a specific bra for a certain dress if they don’t feel comfortable not wearing a bra or if they don’t like certain material and things like that.I was also thinking I could have each of them pick out their own bridesmaid dresses themselves and just have completely different dresses on each one of them. I’m throwing this idea out there only because I know that some of them might not speak up if they truly don’t like a dress that I picked out and I would hate for them to be in a dress that they don’t like because it will totally show in photos and just their entire presence And I just want them to feel as beautiful as I hope to feel on my wedding day too. All of my colors are very neutral whites and creams So I feel like they could literally pick out anything and it will look great. How do you guys feel about this idea, or do you think this is a dangerous thing to do allowing them to pick their own dresses... I welcome any and all opinions unfiltered and unapologetic, so feel free to be as open and honest as possible.....

I don't think this is dangerous at all! I think it's awesome you're letting them pick!
With my bridal party I did the same thing. I said they just had to be the same color, at least knee length, and couldn't be strapless.
They all ended up picking the same dress in the end, but throughout the process they were so appreciative of me letting them have freedom and decide what they felt most comfortable in!

Plenty of couples let their bridesmaids pick their own dresses. I don't think it's dangerous, I think it's courteous.

As much as being "totally open to whatever they want" sounds good in theory, many BMs will find that much freedom stressful because they just don't know what you really want. I'd suggest choosing color swatches you like (it could be one color or a set of colors/shades that you like), and giving them a length, and potentially a type of fabric (tulle is a very different look/formality than satin or velvet), and I'd give them a budget since your mom has graciously offered to cover the cost (so, whatever she's comfortable with, say $100 per girl). Then either give them free rein or ask them to send you a photo to approve of what they like. (That way just in case someone chooses something WAAAAAY outside what you were thinking, you've set up a check & balance.) Your mom sounds awesome!

Cool, Thanks for the feedback. Yeah I just feel like what could possibly go wrong, lol. I was looking on David’s bridal website and all of the long bridesmaids dresses I really like. I was thinking that even if they pick a short dress it would still look fine but then I’m like well what if someone picks something that I hate LOL.

That’s so generous of her! I think it’s a good idea to let them pick what they like and are comfortable in just give them a color scheme to go with

I had 9 bridesmaids. I gave them a color, fabric & length and let them pick their own dresses from Azazie. I thought it looked really nice and they all were happy! I put my MOH in a slightly darker blue. They picked their own shoes & jewelry.

Yeah I know it took tons of stress off for me because initially I was trying to think of ways to make them feel comfortable but also make them not break their bank.

I gave my girls a color, fabric, and length from David’s let them pick their style. I’m currently in a wedding where the bride did the same and it’s made it very easy. I would caution against letting them pick anything, because different fabrics will look different in photos.

From personal experience the Mesh dresses from David’s are really nice, and there are quite a few styles to pick from!

That was so nice of your mom to pay, and for you to let your girls pick what they wanted, I'm buying my girls dresses, because I wanted them in the same dress, but nobody objected to my choice, and they can be worn multiple times I think?

I having mine pick out their dresses and their shade of blue they are actually more excited about the dresses and I can’t wait to see what they pick out!

Congratulations ! I do not believe they should pick their own dresses. I believe you should go on the site find what you like screenshot it and see what they think of it . For the local gals i would arrange for a dress fitting and have all or though there for the out of towners i would ask them to try that dress on and take pictures. You can even pick your too 3 dresses and choose which everyone prefers. That way you still chose but give them the freedom of choosing Enoch they prefer also
