Bridesmaid dresses

Billie, on December 5, 2019 at 12:28 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 13
After looking through a few Pinterest pins, I’m starting to love when the bridesmaids wear different dress styles in different colors. I know it my day, but I want them to at least love and feel comfortable in their dress. So I’d want them to pick what they want to wear. But had a discussion last with my girls and they pointed out that all the dresses should have some similarity to look good together for like picture purposes. Honestly, really though? How hard is it to look good together when you’re all fancied up? We will all be hair did and make up done, in long elegant dresses and next to men at their finest?! That alone is gonna make a picture! Help..need some thoughts!!

We gave our bridesmaids a website, color, and length and they picked their own styles. We didn't have problems with any of the dresses clashing.

My sister did something similar, she had a theme I forget the movie but it’s about the two kids who run away together in the woods? Midnight or Noon or a time of day is in the title. Anyway, she had multiple colors picked from the movie and gave us each a different color. Some say it clashed others said it looked good. Why not ask your girls for their top three color preferences and see if they all have one in common or if they are similar at least and have those colors throughout the decor.

I love the new style of different looks, I am thinking of just giving them a color and going with them to pick them out.

I feel the same as you, I wanted my bridesmaids to choose whatever dress there were comfortable in as long as it was long and in the right color. All three of them were adamant about all wearing the same dress, so that turned into a bit of an issue dress shopping. My maid of honor is short, average weight, and busty with no butt. My matron of honor is average height, a little plus-sized, and busty with large hips. And my bridesmaid is tall, thin, with small breasts and wide hips. So finding a dress they all felt good in was a bit of a challenge.

My maid of honor and bridesmaid found one they loved and my matron of honor was fine with it but I could tell she was very uncomfortable with the amount of skin/pudge showing up top (I'm the same exact way). I hated that she didn't feel pretty in the dress like the other two did, so I ended up having to make sure that if they were all adamant on wearing the same dress, it had to be a modest enough dress for my matron of honor to feel comfortable and beautiful too. After about 5 or 6 tries, we found one they all liked!

I think the concern is probably just that like, if most of your bridesmaids pick pastel colors and one bridesmaid wears bright orange or something, that would not look good together lol. Maybe give them a color palette to choose from, just to narrow it down? Like “any shade of blue/green” or “any pastel color” or something?

What I learned is actually often bridesmaids prefer it when you give them some direction. I mean, forcing people to all wear the same dress if they’re not comfortable in it is one thing, but just saying “get any dress” can be a little stressful because there’s too many choices and they want to make sure it goes with the right look you want. I’d just narrow down a general color scheme for them.

I'm having my bridesmaids order their dresses from Azazie. I just gave them color, length and fabric (chiffon is the most common on the site, so I went with that)
If you want different colors then I think you should at least pick a color palette. If you just let them pick whatever color, one might have a bright red, another in a deep blue and another in a pastel pink - those wouldn't match. You can find color palettes online. They can either be different shades of one color or all in the same color family (pastels, fall shades, etc)

It's really your call. Some people go with a mix of super different styles and some people limit the colors, or fabrics, or styles, and it can look good no matter what. I want some similarity between the dresses, so I picked out a bunch of options that all include some lace details but have a variety of different sleeve types and dress shapes. Each bridesmaid will be able to choose off that list what they think suits them best!

I really wanted different shades of blue and different styles for my girls, but it was getting to the point where it was unnecessarily stressing me out because I couldnt decide if everything went together or if it looked tacky. So i ended up with one color, but different style dresses. I understand wanting the BMs to be comfortable, which would be nice of you to let them pick what style they like. But agree with some of the girls above in maybe narrowing it down color wise so there is some uniformity? But again, it is your wedding Smiley smile

I gave each of my girls a different color and told them as long as they pick the same fabric and length they could each have a different style. They ended up liking the same dress but thankfully it came in all of their colors. I also had to specify that I wanted them in brights not pastels to make sure that it looked more cohesive and fit with our colors.
