Bridesmaid Dresses

Mege, on June 20, 2019 at 9:42 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 25

Hello Ladies!

Once again I'm a little bit stuck.

For our wedding party we have a total of 4 bridesmaids and 4 groomsmen.

The groomsmen are all set with same tux rentals but for the bridesmaids it seems that all have a different opinion.

One of them wants to do same color but different dresses, another one prefers straps while the others want strapless.

I'm worried if I say the same color but different dresses are okay then someone will come come in a short dress or a dress that is more of a summer dress then an evening dress.

What I was thinking to do is go with them to Davids Bridal and pick out the same material and bottom portion of the dress but they can change the top in the sense of straps or strapless or even one shoulder. What do you all think?

Ideally I would prefer for them to all have the same dress.

Ultimately, I think you get the final say here. If you really want them in the same dress, go for it. If you're open to a little difference, I think telling them what length and color and possibly fabric would be fine. If you're open to online ordering, I know I saw some convertible dresses that are "one dress that you can wear ten ways" kind of things, and that might be a good in-between option.

I think it would be easiest to say "long dress in x color." You could even choose the fabric. I don't think you're going to find different dresses with the exact same skirt, or that that's even necessary.

If you want all the same dress then tell them that. It’s your day. If you are in with different dresses in the same color go to David’s and pick the designer and color and length and send that to them. My DIL just did that for her wedding and it was fine. Make sure there is a note under your name at David’s that they have to pick from those and that should help

I told my girls I pick the color I pick the length and you can pick your style, but I have veto power if it doesn’t go. There are certain things you should be firm on. I personally love mismatched bridesmaid dresses

I think that at the end of the time, the final decision is yours. You need to decide what to vision for your day! I think your idea of letting them just change the top of their dresses is a good idea! But, if you are doing that just for them, then I would consider doing something you want!

I have no experience with Azazie, but I've heard excellent things on here from other brides. You can order fabric/color swatches, try on for a small fee and you can order a measuring tape from them and have a custom dress made. You can apparently set up a "room" with dresses you like to limit the options because they have tons of options. I love that they have so much to choose from and they're relatively inexpensive. A lot of the dresses do have the same bottom and a different top. If your BMs are local you could even do a try on party. I'll most likely use them when the time comes.

For my wedding since all my bridesmaids are out of town including me I told them their dress had to be Navy, long, and mostly formal(like not a casual summery dress). I like the style of having different style dresses, but some wanted similar fabric so we decided on chiffon since it is easy to find, but other than that it will be up to them to find a dress that makes them feel comfortable. It’s your wedding and you get the final say. Think about what you want your ladies to look like and tell them this is what you want. Stick with tour decision and don’t let anyone change your mind.

I let mine choose their dresses as long as it was in same gradient of color. They all coordinated with one another so it ended up well and not clashing.
You could also always buy those convertible dresses where they can tie it in different ways to make different styles

I told my girls they could pick whatever dress they wanted from Azazie... but I specified the color, the length, and the fabric. They each chose 2-3 options, showed them to me and asked for my thoughts, and then made their decision. This worked out great! They each got the dress they loved, felt comfortable in, and was within the price point they were comfortable spending.

Azazie is great. I had my BM's order their dresses from there. They all did the try on option so they could see what they looked like in different styles. The quality is great too for the price! They all just ordered their final dresses a couple of weeks ago!

I think it's your day and your choice. If you want the same dress then they wear the same dress.
A popular solution is same length (type) and same color but they can decide within those parameters. I say pick a color and length and go to David's if that's your go to and see what they look like with similar dresses vs the same and see how you feel.
I think Azazie and David's have a dress with a top you can tie different ways, it'd be the same dress but they can decide strapless ect that might be worth exploring.

I've never been in a wedding where the bride told us to pick out our dresses, and I'm not having that wedding either. I told each bridesmaid what dress and what color to buy. I dont need 4 different opinions. I need one. Mine.
    You can pick the color.
    You can pick the length.
You can pick if they match or not.
This is entirely up to you. Not them.

This is what I would say as well. If your fear is that giving them total freedom will make it hectic, then give them freedom to choose a dress but with basic guidelines. Give them a color (whether it's one color for everyone, or every girl is assigned a specific color) and tell them a length, and let them go for it. That's what we did - it kept things cohesive, but still allowed for everyone to feel comfortable in what they were wearing

I think it's your wedding and you should be dictating and approving the attire.

A recent wedding I was in, the bride took us to DB's and had us all pick out a dress we liked that was floor length and came in the same color. It was very easy.

I only have a MOH, but if I had a larger group, I'd have done the same thing because that's what I'm personally okay with.

I had a similar situation. The biggest difference was all of my bridesmaids have drastically different body types.

My compromise, was to show them what color to buy and that I wanted full length gowns. I didnt really care if the styles matched, just reminded them my grandma was coming so to keep it classy!

At the end of the day it’s your decision what you want them to wear. Obviously you want them to feel comfortable and confident, but by agreeing to be in your wedding they should expect that they have to respect your decision. For me, I went to DB with two of my bridesmaids (several live in other states so this was the easiest option for us) and I picked the color, length, and fabric that I liked. There ended up being 30-40 dresses that fit that criteria. I was also able to put on file what I wanted them to choose from so all the girls had to do when they went was have a sales associate pull up my name and they were able to help them.

It's your decision in the end. I didn't ask for my bridesmaids input on dress or color, just price. I gave them a color, fabric and length from Azazie and let them pick their dresses. If you want them to all have the same dress, that's fine as long as it's in their price range. I'd avoid strapless, not everyone is okay with strapless.

If you want them to have the same dress then I think you should put your foot down and let them know what dress you want. I looked on DB and picked 4 dresses and let my sister who is a bridesmaid pick her favorite and that is the one we went with. I only have two bridesmaids so it was easier for me, also my sister and I live in TX only an hour apart and my other bridesmaid lives in SC so it was just eaiser to tell her what dress to get.

Ultimately it's your decision. I picked out the convertible dress for my girls. Looks great on all body types, you can pick what ever colors you want, and they can wear the top however they want. Great way to have an easy decision and still have each girl have their own touch. I got them on Etsy. Can also get them in long or short. They have tons of colors!!!
