Bridesmaid Dresses, Where to Buy

Kelly, on January 2, 2021 at 1:16 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 20
So I'll preface with I'm a little old school, and possibly an older bride (I'll be 38) and most of my friends are over the whole bridesmaid dress shopping thing. And I get it, but I still sort of wanted to do it. And I'm pretty old school, I was thinking David's Bridal. It's affordable and everywhere. But I'm getting pushback.

So I found the site Azazie? It was one of the only online places to have the color I want (coral) available. It seemed like there were good choices. Anyone have any insight?
Also is it really horrible of me to want them to wear the same dress? I just like how it looks. I'm getting pushback on that too.

My bridesmaids bought their dresses from Azazie! It was a positive experience. You can create a showroom of dresses you like, and your bridesmaids can order the dresses through the showroom. If they all order within 24 hours of each other, the dresses are made from the same dye lot and guaranteed to be exactly the same color. They also have a Try On At Home program (though I believe there is like a $10 fee per dress), so the dresses can be tried on first before committing to them. They also can be returned within a certain time of receiving them (as long as a standard size is ordered instead of a custom sizing). Their shipping estimates were accurate.

I do not think your age should dictate your wedding experience. If you really want to do some thing for your wedding, then go for it! I will say, Azazzie has them really great dresses with a wide array of styles, colors and sizes; and all the brides on here who have used them have been incredibly happy with the quality of dresses. They also offer a try at home option, which people seem to really love. As far as having everyone wear the same dress, that is completely your choice. Personally, I think it is nice to let your bridesmaids choose the style of their dresses, just because everybody’s bodies are different and everybody has their own personal insecurities about their bodies, and I would want my girls to feel comfortable and confident in whatever they are wearing (especially if they will be standing in front of a bunch of people). Ultimately, though, it is your decision. If you have one particular dress in mind, maybe you could pay for the try at home option for them and see if they all like the dress.

Azazie is a very trusted and popular site and the best thing with them is they have a try at home program so your girls won't have to go anywhere if they don't want. You are not horrible in the slightest for wanting them to wear the same dress.

It's still pretty common to have your party in the same style dress. Just keep in mind their body type if they're all different. Not everyone can pull off or feel comfortable in the same style as others if they aren't built the same.
    Good luck!!

Im doing Azazie now. I ordered the sample dresses for my girls to try on ($10 a sample then you send them back). I ordered 7 and they could choose from there (not requiring them to wear the same).

I have heard nothing but good things and their custom sizing is great too. If you want them to wear the same thing go for it! I would suggest order some samples and have them try on. You can make a little thing of it with wine and snacks.

Most get dresses from Azazie with great feedback. You can try on styles at home for a fee. Cocomelody has a similar program with more modest styles.

Based on your description it sounds like they don't want to wear anything and are not willing to budge. I would rethink having them as bridesmaids in that case. Short of not having any of these women as bridesmaids because one of the main duties is wear the dress the bride has picked, is it possible to compromise with everyone wearing a long/short (your choice) black dress they already own with an awesome coral bouquet?

Azazie is amazing! Our bridesmaids dresses came from there and I have nothing but positive things to say about the company!
I let my bridesmaids pick their own dresses, as everyone does not have the same body type & might not feel comfortable in the dress you pick. You could maybe choose a few dresses and let them pick from there?

My girls got their dresses from David's Bridal. Originally, I was against getting dresses there because of past experiences I had there and others I know I had there. My girls and I went shopping together at some small shops for dresses, but they were so limited on what they had to offer so we ended up at David's Bridal. I also wanted my girls in the same dress which it made so much harder to find a dress that looked good on all of them and they were all comfortable in. I was under the impression all of the girls liked the dress I picked. However, seven days before my wedding my sister who was maid of honor messaged that she hated how she looked in the dress and wouldn't agree to be in any wedding photos and she wanted to change after the ceremony. There was no way I wasn't going to have my sister in my wedding photos so I ended up going and buying her a different dress from David's Bridal in the same color, but different style. I mailed it to her since she lives in another state and doesn't have a David's Bridal near her. We got lucky that our seamstress was able to make the alternations to her new dress in such a short time period. Needless to same that after that experience, I wish I had let me girls pick their own dress style just in the same color, fabric and length rather than wanting all of them in one style. As for Azazie, I have heard great things about them. However, I received pushback from my sister and mom who were concerned about me using an online company for dresses. I wish I would have ignored them because I think Azazie has so many beautiful options whereas David's Bridal doesn't have as many options.

Two of my 4 girls ordered their dresses from Azazie. Dresses are beautiful, affordable and great quality. They also offer custom sizes for no additional cost. One of my bridesmaids did a custom order and it fits her perfectly. I'm older than you and was also looking forward to dress shopping with my bridal party too, but this was so much easier and they have a lot of options.

We used Azazie and everyone loved them. You’re not horrible for wanting them to wear the same dress, but I do think that it’s a little outdated and not the best way to treat your closest friends. Everyone has different body types and it’s going to be very difficult, if not impossible, to find a dress that works well for everyone.

My bridesmaids were able to pick their own dresses as long as it was the color I chose. They ended up getting the same one. They got them off Amazon through the try now pay later thing which is where you try them on and pay for what you like. Then send back what you don't and just pay for what you keep.

I choose a dress and both my girls wore the same one. I did take their wants(as well as mine) into consideration when choosing. And, even though they have different body types, the dress looked great on both of them! It does help i only had 2 bridesmaids But, do try and find a happy medium.
Like I wanted some detail in the back, my one BM didn’t want strapless because she wanted to wear a bra, my other BM was pretty easy going. I went through several dresses, some I went shopping alone and tried them on and some I went with my BM that lives close. We sent all option to the one out of state and together we agreed on one that made us all happy.

What is the push back you’re getting? I am using azazie and actually my girls are only paying about $40 for their dresses because they’re “maxi” instead of “bridesmaid” so that is an option, they have the same colors that they offer for bridesmaid dresses in the maxi style. Mine are Cabernet I haven’t looked for coral but check out that option if they’re fussing over the price. But azazie even has bridesmaids dresses for less than $100. I hope they can find something they like!

As to asking them to wear the same dress, have you personally gone to David’s Bridal and tried on dresses recently? I suggest it before you make this decision. I went last week to try some options for my girls (since the pandemic makes group shopping impossible right now) and yikes 😬 as a bride in my 30s I was a little shocked how unflattering many of them were! Totally the opposite feeling from wedding dress shopping. What is cute and flirty on a 22 yr old may look (or just feel) too risqué for older women- plus bras are very challenging with many of the styles. The current trend is letting your girls pick the style, that seems like a very reasonable compromise. (But go for it with having bridesmaids, this is your day and you aren’t the only older bride doing it 😉)

We used Dessy, and we found the quality to be higher than that of Azazie, but I've also worn Azazie as a bridesmaid and had a good experience. You can't go wrong with either. However, I personally wouldn't ask my bridesmaids to wear the same dress. These days, most allow their girls to be in different styles because everyone has a different body type and different level of comfort/modesty. Unless all of your bridesmaids have the same body type (and nobody is pregnant and they agree on the modesty end) then you might be able to do it. But I personally wouldn't recommend it.

I think it's ok if you want them in the same dress, that's very typical anyway.

    azazie is a great choice!
