Bridesmaid dresses- Same color different dresses.

So my wedding colors are blue and gray but since I am currently in my first year of graduate school most of my college best friends (bridesmaids) are, well, all over the place. So my wedding colors are blue and gray but since I am currently in my first year of graduate school most of my college best friends (bridesmaids) are, well, all over the place. I'm not too worried about this as far as setting things up for the wedding because we are going to have a fairly low key wedding. I just want them standing by my side. My MOH lives in the same place at me.

Anyway, I was originally just going to give everyone my wedding color as a color swatch sent in the mail and have everyone pick their own style of dress that they are comfortable in with the only consistency being color and length (short).

Has anyone done this? Any good or disastrous results? Do I have another option if we never all be together until the wedding?

I was originally going to go this route. I was going to give them a designer, length and color and let them choose a dress. My SIL did this when her and my brother got married and it looked great. My bms all liked a dress I choose and it worked for all their body types, so I ended up going the matching route

Maybe try one of these dresses, I bought them online for my bridesmaids for $39 and they are good for all body types you can get different looks depending on which way they tie the dress. Esty AttomAttire

@LV BRIDE^ Those are really nice. The only thing I worry about is sizing. Do they have an easy return policy if the dresses don't fit?

    CBtoCL, thanks for the website!

Thanks for all the help ladies.

I kind of did this. gave them a color shade at let them go crazy but I didn't want the colors to be exact. If you want the colors to be exact I would suggest picking a designer because every designer is different even if the colors are supposed to be the same.

I'm going to basically tell my girls color, length, and fabric from David's Bridal, which limits it to about 8 different styles from DB. I agree with Beka. I would HATE it if someone handed me a swatch and made me find my own dress from nothing. Too much pressure for me. If I'm going to stand at your wedding and be in your photos, PLEASE tell me at least vaguely what to wear.

^ I like the idea of getting them from a bridal salons like David's Bridal but actual "bridesmaid" dresses are a lot more expensive than dresses that they could find at a department store. I will make sure and ask them to get their preference.

We are using azazie.com. The girls will be in different colors but the same fabric. The they will choose whatever style dress they want. They all have different body types and I want them to be comfy!! Ignore the pink, that is a possible color for FG dress and maybe my sash. Good Luck! And now looking at the pic the colors are a bit dark!

Definitely give some guidance! I was in a wedding this summer where we were literally just told to get dresses that were one of two colors. While it ended up looking okay, it was a million times more stressful trying to find something not only in that color but that I thought the bride would approve. Bridesmaids want some guidance. At least in my experience Smiley smile

I told my bridesmaids to find something in navy blue that makes them feel amazing. I know that navy may vary depending on the designer, but that's okay - I like the ombre look. Smiley smile They are all okay with it. I DID tell them that I'd like to see a photo of the dress before they buy it, which they are all fine with.

I had one find a dress when I was in her city on a business trip and we went shopping last month, and I'll be seeing another one for a shopping trip later this month, but for at least two of the others it isn't realistic to see them in person (I'm in Indiana, they are in Texas and Georgia). The other bridesmaid (I have 5) is local, and I'm sure we will meet up to go shopping at some point.

My girls are all getting long dresses in various shades of pale blush. My requests were that they be long and somewhat flowy (no satin or taffeta). They all have different budgets and body shapes, and we are having a 1.5 year engagement so they've had a long timeline to find dresses. I sent them inspiration pictures, I've gone shopping with them if they asked, and they have sent me pictures of dresses they find. One found a dress for $40 on clearance, one splurged on a BHLDN gown for $280, one is buying a dress from a friend who wore a blush dress as a BM for another wedding, and one found an expensive one she loved and she waited paciently until it went on sale. It's worked out for everyone! I've also not been too concerned about them matching or "going together" perfectly since I care more that they be comfortable and happy in the pictures Smiley smile
