I finally worked up the nerve to ask my least financially solvent bridesmaid how much she felt comfortable spending on a dress and she said $100. I finally worked up the nerve to ask my least financially solvent bridesmaid how much she felt comfortable spending on a dress and she said $100. As far as I can see, even the lower end places like David's, Azazie, and Alfred Angelo start at $130 and go up from there. So question 1, when I've been a bridesmaid in the past I've gotten dresses off the rack at David's and they fit fine as is. How much alterations have your ladies needed done to dresses either in that price range or the more designer style (I really like some by Dessy)? Question 2, is paying half a thing I could do? I'm not sure I have the budget to take on $200 dresses for everyone, but does anyone split cost or it is an either-or thing? Thanks!

If you pick a dress from David's or another widely used designer (like Allure) she can probably find a worn once gown for half price. I got my gown for my cousins wedding on eBay- and it needed no alterations! I paid $60, the other girls paid $160, and it was the exact style, make, color. Just an idea! Check out preownedweddingdresses.com and eBay!!

My BM's had a similar budget of $100. We found wrap dresses on etsy for $100 and they don't require alterations. etsy may be a place to look.

You can definitely pay for anything over $100. Have you asked you other BM? Just because they have more money dosnt always mean they are willing to pay more for a dress they will only wear once.

I second looking at non-bridal stores. There is place called Deb's wear I live that has a lot of prom/formal dresses (and other clothes). I got my formal dress for a cruise there. Most of the dresses are more prom-ish but the prices are really awesome and they have a lot to choose from compared to macy's or JCpenny. Maybe you would be able to find something there.
