Bridesmaid dresses... how far in advance?

Taylor , on April 27, 2018 at 9:18 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 11
How soon or how far out should we start working on bridesmaid dresses? Does everyone need to go get fitted at the same time?

I have an idea of what dresses I would like them to wear just don’t know when to go.

We are going next week and the wedding is late October. But I would say 5-6 months before at the latest. They don’t need to all go at the same time, unless you want them all to agree on a dress.

Talk to the place you are buying them from. Certain seasons then to be busier than others so they can give you a time frame breakdown for all the dresses you need.

I was told to go at least 6 months in advance. It was good advice! It took their dresses 3.5 months to come in.

It also depends on sizing needed. 2 of my bridesmaids are tall and needed to order “extra length” dresses from David’s Bridal and those are taking 4-5 months to come in. The regular sizes only took about 2-3 weeks.

We are going the end of July and my wedding is next September. The only reason we’re doing this is because one of my bridesmaids lives in China and she will only be home in July and not again until our wedding. The boutique suggested the girls all order together because dresses can be discontinued. They told me they take at least 4 months to get although this doesn’t effect us!

It really depends on the designer you are looking at. Azazie has a quick turnaround, but more "upscale" designers will take longer. David's will say it takes a long time but generally it's a very quick turnaround since there dresses are prestocked in warehouses.

Your bridesmaids don't need to order together. Shops will claim dye lot issues but in this day in age it's not an issue for synthetic fibers. If you are ordering something with a natural fiber then I would order them all together to get the same dye lot

I worked at David's bridal for 2+ years and I'm having my bridesmaids order no later than the last week of July (wedding date is December 8th) but depending on the color and If they might need alterations you might want to have them do it sooner than that. Recommendation is 5-6 months before Smiley smile

6 months is generally a good time frame.. you want to remember to leave some time for them to get dresses altered if that's needed for any of them.

I think 5-6 months out is a good time frame. It allows for delivery time, alterations, and any thing else that might come up (like delays in the process). My BM got all their orders in a week ago and my wedding is in a little under 5 months.

I asked for their budget for the dresses at 7-8 months out from the wedding (around the time you should be asking them to be in the wedding party tbh). Then I chose the dresses I wanted by 5ish months out, which gave them about a month and a half to order since Azazie recommends ordering 3-4 months out.
