Bridesmaid dresses for out of state bridesmaids

Kelli , on November 22, 2010 at 5:51 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 12

So 2 of my sisters, who are in my bridal party, live out of state. I'm a bit worried about how the whole getting bridemaids dresses thing will work with them not being in the same state as me. Any advice? Does anyone know how bridal shops can help with this too?

What kind of bridal shop are you going too? If you go to Alfred Angelo or Davids bridal or something like that then you can go to any of there stores where they are from and they can get measured and order the dress. If your going to a local bridal shop then they could stop in at their own local shop and get measured there and then call the shop you are going too with their measurements and order the dress. Im not sure how they would accept their payment though. You'll have to talk to your bridal shop and see how they wanna handle this...I am sure your not the only one they will be dealing with that has outa state BM's!

I had the same problem. All of my BM's are out of town! The first thing I did was search for bridal shops that were in everyone's location so that they didn't have to travel far from home to get fitted for dresses. I decided on David's Bridal. This way they can go to their local DB and get fitted and pay for their dresses as well. Just so happened in all of my BM's cities there is a DB. If you go with a local bridal shop they could probabaly do their own measurements and call the shop and give them that way and you collect their money. The thing with local bridal shops is they usually want to have all dresses ordered at the same time and paid in full before they are ordered. I didn't want to be bothered with this so that's another reason why I went with DB . You pick the style and color for each bride , set a deadline to have dresses paid for and ordered, the girls can get fitted at their leisure as long as everything is done by the deadline. This kinda takes the burden off of you.

I went with DB too, I have 2 OOT bridesmaid, 1 can drive here she about 2 hours away but the other one will only be here one other time before the wedding, so I felt DB was less of a hassle because there every where.

I have a few girls out of state too. Chains like Davids Bridal and Alfred Angelo make it easy, but I didn't find anything in either store that I really liked and wasn't a fan of their quality. Start looking in local bridal shops for BM dresses, and take notes for yourself of the designers and style numbers. You'll find that shops all over the country carry the same designers. If you want the girls' input, you can pick a few styles and then have them call salons around their area to ask: "Do you carry Bari-Jay bridesmaid dresses? Yes? Do you have a sample of style 123 in stock?" Then they can go try on your dresses, take pictures of themselves in them to send to you, and give you their opinions. It was very easy for my out-of-state BM to find the dress I liked for them in a store near her own home.

I had the same problem with 2 out of states BMs. What I have done is email back and forth a lot and also I created an online dressing room at http://www.shinyorb.com

The girls can log in with their email address and password I gave them. Then they can add dresses and leave comments about them. The best part is they have a large selection of bridesmaids dresses, flower girl dresses, and even bridal gowns. Once we decided on a dress we went to the designer's site and searched for locations near both the BMs and me.

All bridal stores these days are used to having bridesmaids out of town.

All that would need to happen is that you choose and register your party (and each girl) with the store of your choice. Your girls should then go to a bridal store near them and get measured. I would recommend they go to a bridal store that carries the designer you are ordering-that way the store will have the measurement scale for that designer and can actually help the girls choose a size and not just give them the measurements.

Then, the girls can call the bridal store, give them their measurements and most will accept a credit card over the phone or they could mail a check in to the store.

THe store will simply get the brides info and ship the dress to the bride when it comes. (ask about shipping costs when choosing a store thought)

Just make sure that you order all the dresses from the same store at the same time. That way you know that the dye lot will be that same for all the dresses. They can just get measured where they live and send the measurements to you.

All of my bridesmaids are OOT (one out of country). So I picked style, color, length and told them to go find dresses. I've seen various wedding pictures where the girls were all very similar, but in different dresses and it looked nice. It also helps that all of the groomsmen are in black suits. But they aren't getting matching black suits, they are just in black suits. So the groomsmen & bms are all going to be similar, but different. BMs all have the same bouquets, GM all have the same ties (i got the ties for them).

So there is always the option of not having everyone match. Either that or look at DB, AA or even amazon to find a dress that should look good on everyone. Amazon you can usually get the dress cheaper, check the reviews to see how the sizing goes, and even if you get a dress at DB/AA you'd still have to take it to a seamstress most likely to get it to fit them.

It is no problem for out of state bridesmaids. Do what everyone here has stated. Have the girls go get measured, call the store you choose and they can be ordered over the phone. I would call the store first and set it all up, so they know what is happening when your girls start calling.

I had a party of 2. one girl was here locally and the other in CO. The BM that lives in CO is in the middle (Size) of me and my MH so we both went to try on dresses to see what looked good on both of us. We found one and had my BM (CO) go to a dress shop to get measured. She then called AA with her measurments and ordered it that way. We picked the dress up for her and then shipped it to CO for her. It worked out perfectly. You also have to know the styles that you BM will like.

    Good luck!
