Bridesmaid dress shopping

Kimberly, on December 26, 2020 at 12:48 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 9

Hi everyone! How does bridesmaid dress shopping usually work? Should I have a time where all of my bridesmaids and a I go to the store and select a couple of styles? Should I select a few styles myself before we go, and then they try them on? Thanks!

Some parties do this. You can call the boutique in advance to sort things for you too. Color preferences, sizes, design preferences, price limit, material, etc.... Have fun!

If you're hoping that they all wear the same dress style, then I would definitely look up a few styles ahead of time, even if it's just on the internet, to get an idea of what you like. Maybe also get your MOH's opinion on some of them too, since they'll be the ones wearing them. Otherwise, if you're letting them all pick out their own dresses, then you can either all go shopping together (or let them go separately, just make sure they're aware of any length or color requirements ahead of time), or you can order them through Azazie, where you can create a showroom and they can add dresses that they like.

Anytime I have been a bridesmaid the bride maid an appt for us to visit a store (usually David's Bridal) or another bridal store and usually the bride let us choose the style but the bride may have the color in mind. Now if there are bridal party members out of town usually they order it for where they are or you could face time them in. However due to COVID restrictions you may not be able to have all parties in so maybe one big zoom on the phone???

In previous bridal parties I’ve been to, we went to the store and picked out a mix of styles to try on and then we tried them on together. I did go once ahead of time with my best friend and she picked the dresses and I tried them on and we eliminated the ones she didn’t like. For me, we are doing an at home try on session because of covid, so everyone is ordering some dresses to try on and a few of us will meet in person (those who are comfortable doing so) while the ones who aren’t comfortable with join in a video chat. I’m letting my girls pick their own gowns though, so they don’t all have to match.

It really depends on what your vision is for your wedding. I let all my ladies choose the style of dress- my only requirement was it had to be long & red (except for my MOH-she’s wearing burgundy). One of my bridesmaids has had a double mastectomy so I wasn’t about to choose her style- a plunging neckline would be horrible.

Be aware that no two people are the same size/height/skin tone. Azazie and Cocomelody both let them try on dresses at home for a small fee. They can see what styles flatter them and they are most comfortable wearing (not everyone likes or is willing to wear strapless, one shoulder, etc) But everybody needs to get measured to make sure sizes are close, since they aren't the same sizing charts as your clothes from Target.

My bridal party is small, just my Matron of Honor and a bridesmaid. But I am having them pick their own dress. Because they have different body types, I didn’t think it would be fair to make them
Have to wear the same dress if it weren’t flattering for both of them. My only request is that it’s the same exact color by getting it from the same store/ shop/ designer and same material and length.

Select a few styles you wouldn't mind seeing them in and take them in also plus let them also have an input too...

Hey! I made an appt for my bridesmaids and already had the color selected! I let them pick out their own style of dress and just had them stick to the color I selected. I went to David's Bridal pre-COVID but I know that they now have some limitations on how many people each appointment is allowed to have.
