Bridesmaid dress shopping across states?

Cora, on August 17, 2020 at 11:09 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 17

Hi everyone! I have not asked my wedding party yet, but assuming they all say yes, we will be in three different states. None of my bridal party lives in the state I live in. What are your suggestions for dress shopping? Can I find something online and ask that they order it? They will already need to travel for the bridal shower, bachelorette party and the wedding, so I don't want to have to ask them to travel again to go dress shopping. Has anyone else been in this situation? Advice is appreciated!

I think it makes sense to ask them to get a dress online!

My bridesmaids are in four different states, and we ended up using Azazie! You can create a showroom and add dresses into it, and if all bridesmaids order their dresses within 24 hours of each other, the dresses will all be made from the same dye lot to guarantee that the colors will exactly match. They also offer a program to try on the dresses at home, and I believe free returns/exchanges within a certain period of time (only if the dress is not custom sizing). Shipping was quick and the dresses arrived by the date estimated at the time we ordered them. It was a positive experience, I would definitely recommend them.

Azazie is great and online. They also have a try at home option if the girls want to try before they buy. Another option is something like David's Bridal, which has stores all over the country and online. I like the selection and quality of Azazie over David's Bridal though.

Aside from Azazie, go into the authorized dealers or salons section of any company or designer website. They list every store in an area which carries their dresses. So if you like the fact that Jasmine bridal has 3 different lines by price, where you can get matching or coordinating dresses, in colors you want, look them up near each bridesmaid. Then look up Mon Cheri, or Jenny Yoo on BHLDN ( Beholden) for some with pants or skirts and tops, whatever. Large salons may carry all three lines you like or just some. Salons have designer trunk sales days when designer reps go store to store, and dresses are discounted too.
Most places not too rural, it is very easy for BM in different states to find local shops, or ones in a couple hours drive, to try on dresses, do alterations. College towns generally have a few extra stores, too.

Old time dresses of natural fibers,, real silks, cottons, linens, it mattered what dye lot dresses were. So going to one shop, getting all their dresses from one factory for your party, mattered. Now, they use computer mixers, mostly polyester and other synthetics, so all going to one place does not matter. 10 factories from 4 countries may all send them to central distributors. So do not let people try to convince you, all must get gowns from their store to match. They just want extra sales. What does matter is that different kinds of fabrics, the actual colors will differ. A chiffon dress will be slightly different than a nylon tricot lining with tulle overlay, and a silk taffeta will be different from a polyester jacquard. So if different bridesmaids choose different styles in the same color, look at swatches to see. Will a sheer chiffon be a lighter shade than taffeta, or velvet? But swatches will run true whether in Omaha, Boston, or NYC. Dresses need ot be perfect matches. But check swatches if you do not want surprises.

I agree with the PPs who suggested Azazie. It's so easy to use and convenient when the bridesmaids are located in different places!

My bridesmaids were in 2 states. I went shopping with my sister here where we live. We found a dress at the shop where I got my dress. I gave my other bridesmaid the designer and style number. She found a bridal shop near her that carried it. Then she made an appointment to try it on and ordered it.
If you find one at David’s Bridal, those are all over the country. The online sites others have suggested are an option as well, but in my opinion that makes it harder to shop and try on.

Daughter's 5 BMs were in 5 different states -- pretty much all over the country. Like so many others, she had an excellent experience with Azazie -- super dependable, high quality, fast, and significantly less expensive than David's and many other traditional BM manufacturer's, etc. Good luck!

My bridesmaid ordered their dresses on amazon. We were trying to keep the price under $50 so I found 5 dresses in the price range and had them vote and the majority vote won.

My bridesmaids are in 3 different states and I'm in yet another state. We used Amazon Prime and Davids Bridal to try on dresses. For Amazon, everyone ordered the same dresses, tried them all on, and took pictures. For DB, everyone went to their local store, tried on the same dresses, and took pictures. Then via group chat, they chose what they liked. They ended up choosing a DB dress. It was actually kinda fun doing a virtual dress shopping event!

My bridesmaids were in 3 different states, I asked if they would all want to come dress shopping together and they all wanted to/had no problem with it. I also had a 2+ year engagement so it was all spread out and we dress shopped a little early than needed for their dresses to help spread out travel. One BM who lived in the same state as me couldnt make it and that was fine, she said she was good with any choice. Im a bridesmaids for my friend now and she has the same scenario. We are all going to get together to try on dresses but she was also ok with azazie if it didn't work out. Its a fun experience if you can make it work for everyone but azazie is a great alternative!

My bridesmaids aren’t local, so the dresses will be done online. I picked the website, fabric, color, and length. They get to pick whatever style they want!

I recently received a bridesmaid dress I ordered from Kennedy Blue, and I’m super impressed! Their customer service was great, and I love the dress quality.

I am/was in that situation. What we did was, the MOH came out to me for my dress shopping. I then had 2 or the 3 bridesmaids select their dresses online and send me photos of them before they purchased. They received them and they are perfect! They had to do this because one is in NC on base at Camp Lejeune, and the other was not able to meet up with the MOH and last bridesmaid when I flew out to them to pick theirs. It worked great for us and I booked the flight out in advance and saved money. Plus we had so much fun each time, even through Face Time and online shopping together.

We used David’s Bridal, my one out of state bm ordered her dress in two sizes and returned the one hat didn’t work. Returns were easy. I just gave everyone a fabric and color (navy chiffon) and it was fine.
