Bridesmaid dress price🤷

Amber, on November 8, 2019 at 12:38 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 13
So the place I bought my wedding dress they are giving my bridesmaids 20% off their bridesmaids dresses and I'm struggling with price since some are like $150 to $300 and plus alternations prices We've have been generous and paid for their hair and make-up for our wedding so my FH feels the prices aren't that bad that if they wanted they could make half or all their money back if they sell their dresses. I know some of my bridesmaids can afford to spend that much but the others not sure. I know I want to have beautiful gowns for them not the cheapest gown because I feel as tho its cheaper to pick that.

How did you decide your dresses n the price? Did you ask them what they could afford before hand? Or what?

Before making any decisions about the BM dresses, you should ask each of your bridesmaids (separately and in private) what they are comfortable spending. Then set the budget there. 20% off $300 is still $240, which a lot of bridesmaids would consider too expensive (especially if alterations would also be required). I also wouldn't count on being able to sell the dresses afterwards, it's not a guaranteed thing. You can find lovely dresses for around $100 online (I've read on this forum that Azazie is wonderful, has high quality dresses, and custom sizing is free). All that said, if your bridesmaids found dresses in the $150 range at your salon, and they're all willing to spend about that with alterations, go for it!

You should talk to your bridesmaids individually and see what’s a comfortable budget for them. I’ve been a bridesmaid lots of times and I’ve never spent $200 on a dress. The likelihood of them getting any money back on those dresses is slim to none...

As PP’s mentioned, talk to your bridesmaids individually about their budget first. I’m really glad I did. Now there isn’t any guilt while shopping and everyone is happy.

I asked each of my bridesmaids individually what they were comfortable spending. Then I looked for dresses within that price range.

There's places around here that buy used wedding dresses and bridesmaids they probably won't get exactly what they paid for but at least they will get something.

We're paying for their hair and make-up which for 5 BM +$135 each. I'm sure my bridal salon has cheaper dresses I know they do a 60% down payment (I even had to do this for my dress) and everyone in my bridal party that will be purchasing from there has to pay their 60% before they can put the order in then they have time to pay the rest off since I'm not getting married until September.

Yes, that doesn't include alternations price of course but they do offer a consultation and they tell you what all needs to be done and the price but you can option and not have your alternations there and take it to someone else for those services. I will definitely ask each of them what they can afford to spend and what not. Thanks.

Definitely find out your bridesmaids' budgets. Then check out BirdyGrey, Azazie, or Lulu's online. You can get dresses in the ~$100 range.

I let my BM's pick their own dresses, from Azazie, so they could pay what they felt comfortable paying. I just told them the color, fabric, and length I wanted. Azazie's BM dresses range in price from $79-$169, and most of our BM's selected dresses around the $140 range. The dresses were beautiful.

If you are not allowing your BM's to pick their own dresses, or paying for them, then you will need to ask them what their budget is before selecting their dresses. But I would allow them to have input in the dress selection if they are having to pay for it themselves.

I would speak privately to each of your BMs about their budgets before proceeding any further with the dress issue!

I asked the girls if they could afford a dress between $90-$150 before alterations, and they said yes. Then I picked from Azazie and they picked their own dress (so dictated what they paid). It is nice to pay for their hair & makeup, but that benefits the bride more than the bridesmaids so that shouldn't be taken into account. I would just ask each girl individually if she can afford that. I typically like to spend $150 MAX on a bridesmaids dress since 1, no one really cares how the BMs look and 2, they wear the dress for a few hours then never again.

You need to ask them all for their budgets individually and make decision based on the lowest one you get back. Just bc you and your FI think the prices are fair doesn't mean your BM's have the money to spend or want to spend that much on a dress!

I asked and they all said they have no issues in paying since they would have time to pay off the balance since the wedding isn't till September.

Then if they're fine with the price, you're fine to pick whatever.

I actually let my own bridesmaids choose and dictate for themselves because I don't really personally know all their financial situations in detail but I told them if they ever needed help paying for it I don't mind helping them
