Bridesmaid Dress (peach dress and blue tattoo)...

Laura, on December 28, 2019 at 1:51 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 13

I told the girls they could pick their own dresses. They did fabulously! However, I didn't realize that my matron of honor has a blue tattoo that is very visible. Her dress is absolutely her. And, I do not have a single issue with tattoos. But the dress is a pale peach and it really makes the blue tattoo stand out. Her dress doesn't really work well with a shawl... Any ideas? The tat is right over her left breast and goes to her shoulder, so it's massive. She said makeup itches and I respect that... so... Any ideas? It's a sheath with a sweetheart neckline....

Just let the tattoo show. If your guests are focused on your MOH’s tattoo instead of your wedding ceremony, your issue is with your guests, not your MOH.

100% agree with Caytlyn. Just don't do anything, it's totally fine.

I totally get it as my sister who was my maid of honor got almost a whole arm sleeve in between us getting engaged and our wedding which was only 11 months. She also got several on her other arm as well. Two days prior to my brother's wedding she got one of the tattoos on her arm so for his wedding her arm was bright red, itchy and looked terrible. I was worried she was going to do the same thing right before my wedding. Luckily she didn't. I come from a very religious family so they are horrified by her tattoos, but they didn't say a word to me at the wedding about it. Your guests will honestly not notice and if they do they clearly weren't paying enough attention to the ceremony.

You love your friend, tattoos and all. I would be very upset if a friend asked me to cover my tattoos for their wedding. If it was an issue, a different dress should have been picked.

She and I are fine - but even she thinks it doesn't suit her dress - even though she picked both. I'm chill, but want her to feel comfortable too. And she's mentioned it a few times. *Even she was like I don't think this is the look you're going for... Ha! My first wedding she did cover her butterfly ... apparently she gave it reeeeaaaally long wings in the interim. Smiley tongue

Can you share a picture of the dress (or maybe even your MOH in the dress)?

There are some really cute "toppers" that maybe she could wear for the ceremony then lose later after photos. Most are illusion lace or actually sheer/see through lace. You probably wouldn't find a matching color, but since she's your MOH maybe an ivory one (there seem to be more bridal toppers than regular toppers) would work with the pale peach.

If it doesn't bother either of you, I'd say who cares if the tattoo stands out even more. But it sounds like she feels like it just doesn't work. Maybe keep searching for dresses if she feels there is a better option.

Bridesmaid Dress (peach dress and blue tattoo)... 1

Maybe something like this is what you had in mind - but in ivory? Does it matter that my dress is ivory?

    More like this: https://www.bhldn.com/categories/bride-bridal-separates-tops

Do a search for any of the following terms:

Shrug (similar to what you pictured, usually a short jacket with sleeves designed to top off a dress)

    Bolero (like a shrug)

Dress Topper (usually like a sheer shirt, think just the top of a bridal separates/2-piece dress look)

    Shawl (like a scarf)

Cape (like a shawl, but usually shaped, sometimes super long but sometimes short, kinda like how you have elbow length veils all the way to cathedral length)

    Pashmina (like a shawl)

Cardigan (a open fronted sweater, but can be a really open knit or lightweight summer material)

The top could be any color that you and your MOH are comfortable with. "Dress toppers" tend to be associated more with bridal looks and therefore tend to be ivory, but you can use them on any dress, I just haven't had a ton of luck finding them in a wide range of colors (the "BHLDN Jive Top" had a few color options, but appears to be discontinued, although you can find some on Poshmark). You can search for dress separates, bridal separates, bridesmaids separates, or 2-piece dresses (bridal, bridesmaid, dresses in general), and just look at the tops too. Those will tend to not be see through at all (vs just a topper that is designed to show the dress underneath a bit), but might work depending on the style.

    Good luck!

A Pashmina could definitely work. Etsy sells them in a variety of colors for fairly cheap.

Can she just get a different dress? I’d say embrace it or have her change dresses. I’ve been in many weddings and I prefer to cover as many of my tattoos out of respect for the older generation (most were in conservative texas where I lived for a long time after college) but like you my friends didn’t care either way. Maybe some small blue and peach flowers in her hair? Or a blue and peach necklace? As an accent piece to pull it together?
