Bridesmaid Dress Disaster!! Help!!

Marissa, on June 30, 2016 at 10:25 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 17

My bridesmaids dresses came in this week from Azazie and my girls came over tonight to try them on. They are gorgeous. My friend's two year old grabbed a candle and spilled the wax. Thank goodness the baby was ok and was not burned, just a little scared. But now the dress is covered in oily Voluspa wax. The only dry cleaner that was open couldn't have someone look at it until tomorrow night. I'll have to go to another cleaner in the morning. Do you think they would be able to get it out?? Or should I just bite the bullet and buy her another dress? I'm not going to make her buy another dress for my wedding, so I would just take care of it. Does anyone have any suggestions? I'm trying not to have a meltdown.

Wait until you have the dry cleaner look at it. If they can't fix it or it more than the cost of the dress, then buy her one. Relax, you have time!

Honestly with the oil it may be hard to get out. Take it to the cleaners first and if they can't get it out you will have to get a new dress. Im sorry this happened

Take a few deep breaths, make yourself a cup of sleepytime tea, and take it to the dry cleaner tomorrow. Wait until you talk to the dry cleaner before making a decision on what to do next. There is time to get it cleaned or get a new dress, it will all be fine Smiley smile

Look at the bright side....you have plenty of time to figure it out! I'd take it to the dry cleaner, then if they say some of it will likely remain, I'd order a new dress.

I wouldn't buy another dress just yet. You can remove it. I've done it for one of my favorite shirts and it worked but if you're unsure have a cleaner look at it.

I have been a dry cleaners for 20 years. Depending on the solvent they use its a two step process but should absolutely come out. First they should use steam to get any of the dry wax off. Then after it dries dry clean it and the oil stains remaining will come out. Dry cleaning solvent gets oily type stains out great. Just don't put anything on it. That potentially could set the oil stain in. A lot of home remedies are not dry cleanable and could make the stain worse. Don't worry bring to a reputable cleaner and you'll be all set

Edit: even if care label says spot clean only it still won't be a problem. There is a spray called pull out which I use for oil stains that are not cleanable usually because of beading or sequins

See what the dry cleaners say first then decide on buying another dress.

Thank you all so much for our calming words. Especially you, Ryan P.! I will take it to a big name cleaner in my city tomorrow morning. I haven't tried putting anything on it since I figured I would just make it worse. Natalie W., my fiancé just made me a big cup of sleepy time tea Smiley smile

@Ryan P. It's chiffon. Will that be an issue?

@marissa still should not be a problem. Curious what does the care label say for cleaning?

Typically dry cleaners now use a solvent the is petroleum based. It's very "soft" solvent which is awesome for delicate fabrics.

Definitely check with a dry cleaner, and several if you don't like what the first one says.

Pretty basic instructions. If you are still worried ask the cleaner to use a gentle cycle. . Typical machines hold about 55lbs of clothes. I would do it by itself so it doesn't snag of anything else. If you need anymore help or suggestions feel free to email me *******@*****.***. Just put ww dress something like that in subject line
