Navy is a neutral, as is black. Black and navy definitely go together.

The navy or charcoal gray suits are a good way to go.
Agree that navy and black clash - same as the rule that you shouldn’t wear navy/back pants/skirts with a navy/back shirt.

If you do a Google search of "black and navy wedding," there are a lot of photos for you to tell if you like the look of navy and black together.

I personally don't like black and navy together and I agree with you that naby dresses and navy tuxes would be too much blue. Charcoal I think would look the best.

I also agree that gray tuxes (but lighter than charcoal) would be the way to go and then they could wear navy ties.

The black might be a little too much given the dark nature of the navy blue dresses. I'd suggest navy blue suits, paired with a lighter tie or bowtie!

If you will have groomsmen rent tuxedos, skies the limit with colors. Light grey could be funky. However, should you want them to purchase, black and midnight blue are the most practical for later use.


Also, perhaps consider formality of your wedding. Navy and black attire are perhaps the most formal (or I've lived in NY a bit long). You can still do black tuxes and add accent colors via flowers, decor, tablecloths, etc to not be too dark. My venue had chili pepper red carpet with bouts/corsages in blood red orchid. My MOH wore navy strapless. If your vibe is more whimsical, it could be fun to explore colored bow ties. Here is the BM and friend in traditional tux colors.

I don't think Black or Blue tuxes would clash in anyone's estimation. These are simply the colors guys will normally be found wearing as part of the wedding party.

Black and Navy should be fine together! I don't think you'll have any issue at all!

My bridesmaids will be in navy too. I think in certain light, navy can look black so I think black isn’t always the best choice for tuxes. We are going with a charcoal grey instead.

They should do the charcoal grey with the blues accents and your bridesmaids in the navy blue

Unless the navy dresses are very obviously blue and don't pull close to black (which isn't always possible in some lighting), I'd avoid black tuxes as they can look wonky with navy dresses. I think something in the grey family (whether it be heather grey, charcoal, or something else) would be a good move.
