Bridesmaid Dress Alterations

Chloe, on June 24, 2015 at 5:43 PM Posted in Planning 0 11

When should the bridesmaids have their first fitting for alterations? I can't find any info from good ol' Google about this!

I think it may vary depending on what shop/salon you use. When we purchased our bridesmaid dresses, the consultant provided us with an alterations timeline.

4-6 weeks I would say. So they can have at least 1 fitting in case something needs to be fixed before the big day. Alterations for bridesmaid dresses are usually 2 weeks (at least when I have had to get the altered) but some places take longer and some can get it faster. I think 4-6 weeks gives a good window of time.

Thanks ladies! For some reason I was freaking out that it needed to be like 2-4 months before the wedding.

I was told to order them 4 months out, so it gives time to come in and a chance for alterations 4-6 weeks before the wedding.

I have always taken my BM dresses to my local seamstress, and she only takes a week or so at most.

ETA: I would never wait that close to a wedding. I usually get dresses altered a month or two before (don't want weight to change)

I'm in a wedding July 11... dropped off my dress yesterday and my 1st fitting will be July 3rd and pick up the dress on July 10. I would say depends on the dress and the seamstress. I've known my seamstress for like 20 yrs so I know she can handle anything

But I would say at least 3 weeks... don't be the person that drops it off the week of during wedding season.. unlikely to get done

A lot will also depend on the time of year...right now (obviously) Wedding Season is in full swing so brides now may be told longer is needed than if they went in the fall or winter.
