Bridesmaid Disaster!!!

Crystal, on March 22, 2022 at 6:58 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 23

So...my bridesmaids all agreed to purchase their dresses from Amazon because of the easy return policy. Welp...the dresses came from China and when I tell you they are terrible...they are TERRIBLE!!! I dont know what I was thinking agreeing to that smh

One maid ordered the dress 4 sizes bigger and it was still wayyyyy too small. Everyone followed the measurement guideline and none of the dresses fit. So now we are back at square one with 6 months to go! I have 3 maids who live in the same city, 2 live out of state, and one lives 4 hours away. I am trying ti find a salon/boutqiue that we can all go to in person, and others can call in and give their measurements to get their correct size (those who live out of town).

Any suggestions? Los Angels, CA

Oh man that's a bummer, not a boutique but Lulus.com has affordable and lovely bridesmaids dress options. They are usually quick to ship and easy to return. Another option davidsbridal. Good luck!

David’s is a national chain in most major cities. Cocomelody has a brick and mortar store in Los Angeles and a try on at home program for $15-20. If you are in Los Angeles, Santee Alley in the Fashion District has many shops selling bridesmaid/wedding dresses super cheap and they are great quality.

David’s Bridal doesn’t have what I’m looking for, they have very basic styles and colors. I’m looking for sexy, flowy, bright colors: coral/turquoise for a tropical themed wedding.

What about Azazie? I’ve ordered from there as a bridesmaid and it was super easy! The dress needed minimal alterations and was great quality

Yeah I’ve been on their website and they have some nice dresses. But I think at this point we’re trying to stay away from buying anything online without trying it on first 😅 we’ve been traumatized haha

Azazie has samples to try on in some dresses and their production turnaround is pretty quick. ive gotten azazie dresses for 4 weddings and have always been happy. Your bridesmaids can even order them custom sized

Ok! I'll mention it to the girls and see if they'll be willing to try again.

I would say look at Mori Lee bridesmaids. They should have dresses you can try on in person at stores in LA county.

I would say at this stage in the game, ordering directly online is a gamble. Ordering directly from a store will guarantee that you get your dress or are compensated.

I would either go to see the Mori Lee dresses in person, or to a David's Bridal where you can either purchase a dress off of the rack, rush order, or see if anyone out there has a dress in the color and size that you are looking for when it comes to a resale.

Consider having your bridesmaids do different but complimenting colors, or the same color but in complimentary fabrics.

How sexy? Perhaps a more classic style may allow your bridesmaids to wear again.

    Coral in $100-200 range:

    Macy's

    Sak's

    Macy's column cut-out

    Bloomingdale's

BCBG- on sale and polyester. May be easy to alter

    David's Bridal- lace jumpsuit

    $100 and under at Lulu's:

    Lulu's floral

    Tan or coral tropical caftan

    ruffle

    stretch crepe column dress

    ruched bodycon

    coral floral

I tried to take into account your own dress has beading and a detachabe train. But, you can accessorize/ formalize your bridesmaid style with jewelry, bouquets, and hairstyle. best of luck!

Oh I definitely get that! Fortunately, Azazie has relatively quick production times and also has an option for at home try-ons! 2 of my 'maids did Azazie and one did Birdy Grey and all 3 of them did at home try ons and loved it!

Echoing the Azazie option. They're more reputable than sellers on Amazon, your bridesmaids could do an at-home try-on before purchasing to make sure the sizing is what everyone needs, and you could also order swatches to make sure the colors are what you want. I've heard they're pretty quick about shipping as well.

Have everyone return them and order from Azazie! My friend got married a few years ago and that's where all the bridesmaids ordered our dresses from and they were beautiful, well made and reasonably priced. I think mine was under $100! She just told us the specific color she wanted and that they had to be long, we could choose whatever style we wanted and they have a large selection to choose from. Also, they have a try before you buy program, where you pay like $20 and they send you a few dresses of your choice to try on before buying.

Yeah everyone is in the process of returning them now. We have an appointment at Cocomelody so everyone can try on dresses and get sized. Azazie is also an option if they feel comfortable ordering online again. I think everyone is concerned about the sizing.

Yeah, the sizing thing is totally understandable. I was lucky enough to have a tape measure handy from a fashion construction class I took in college (they might be able to order a cheap one from Amazon and share it), and took my measurements using that, it was really helpful. I ordered my sample dresses based on my measurements and their size chart and they were pretty spot on.

Yeah that’s the thing, everyone went based on their measurements. I even had one maid who normally wears an 8 order a 12 “just to be safe” and it was wayyyyyy too small! So that’s where the reluctance comes in. We’ve been scarred. But the try on option sounds like a good start.
