Bridesmaid colors & guest attire for a champagne & ivory wedding dress?

Lindsey, on February 15, 2019 at 9:32 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 9
I had this dream of wearing a very ethereal white wedding dress with bridesmaids in flowy champagne colored dresses with white floral & greenery flower crowns...but the dress I purchased that was closest to my vision (in my budget) is ivory with champagne crepe lining and ivory tulle.

What would you all recommend for bridesmaid dresses and colors to go with this dress but still look ethereal and classy/elegantly minimalist? Now that I have my dress, I’m worried we’ll all look too similar if they wear tan, since there’s tan in my dress. Should I go with blush or taupe? (Which would be better for a late summer/early fall)?

Our wedding will be in late September in a tented indoor/outdoor venue and we plan on having white flowers with lots of greenery (similar to these photos) so I’m also wondering what to tell guests for attire as I’m not sure there’s a name for what I have in mind...elegant but lighter colors...formal yet appropriate for indoor/outdoor. ressier than semi-formal, but not as dressy as formal. I’m thinking more like delicate long-sleeved lace pencil dresses or satin fit & flare dresses in muted colors or earth tones for the lady guests and khaki, blue, or gray suits for the gentlemen guests.

ny ideas on what to call that? I found “rustic elegance” and “garden formal” which are similar to what I have in mind, but could be confusing to guests.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions ☺️

You don't tell your guests what attire to wear. This style is often referred to as "boho" too. I think your girls could still wear champagne to compliment your dress. Blush would look nice too.

I think champagne bridesmaid dresses would still be okay! Blush would be a great back-up.

"Garden formal" sounds great for the guests. I would just go ahead and put examples of what this means to you on the wedding website or the invite since guests won't otherwise know what you mean. My wedding website is through Zola and they have a bunch of common attire suggestions - "Semi-Formal: Tuxes and gowns are welcome, and so are suits and cocktail dresses." / "Garden Attire: Wear sundresses, floral prints, suits in lighter hues, and fun hats and fascinators."

Neither of those are quite on point for you, but I think it's fine to spell out what a dress code means. I would keep it more general, rather than telling women they need to wear long-sleeved lace dresses (which might be your vision, but is asking too much of your guests). Suggesting that they wear lighter colors, for example, is fine though!

We almost went with beige/tan bridesmaid dresses, too! Instead, our girls are wearing dusty sage (not Azazie dusty sage) -- it's a grey-ish version of sage green, and it looks beautiful with all of the greenery in our wedding. Maybe something along those lines, or maybe a dusty steel blue?

As for attire, we noted ours as "cocktail attire" -- personally, as a guest, I like knowing what style the wedding is before I pick out my outfit (I wouldn't wear a cocktail dress and stilettos to an informal wedding, but would instead wear a sundress and dressy sandals).

I agree - OP, you unfortunately can't tell your guests how to dress. I WISH you could! Haha. You can, however, have a note about dress code on your website, or if a guest asks you can make suggestions.

As for your BMs, a lot of brides like azazie for style and color selection, as well as price. THey have a pretty champagne or frost color. I also think your idea of blush, champagne, or muted colors / earth tones for their dresses would be beautiful as well.

Champaign or tan would still look fine on bridesmaids. You can’t dictate what your guests wear. They’re adults, they can dress themselves.

Carolyn, I’m not trying to dictate what anyone wears, people are asking me.

Thank you! Long sleeves was just a suggestion because it will be cold in the Montana venue and our guests are coming in from Dallas. Again, truly not dictating what people should wear but trying to give guidance since I’m being asked.

    Hi Megan,

I’m definitely not trying to tell anyone what to wear, I’m just trying to determine what to call it: Formal, Semi-formal or cocktail. Our guests are flying to Montana from Texas so what can pass as formal in the hot weather might be too cold for them in the colder Montana weather. People are asking me so I’m just trying to come up with suggestions.
