Bridesmaid cancellation

Becca, on February 6, 2020 at 12:11 PM Posted in Planning 0 9
My fiancé’s mother was terribly ill and ended up dying at the end of last month. We had to spend a lot of our wedding 👰 savings on her. Now, we are planning a smaller ceremony.

I originally had 10 bridesmaids, I want to end up with 5. What is the best way to cut them without sharing our financial struggles with them.

I honestly would maybe just do a MOH, and explain to everyone that you re-evaluated the type of wedding you wanted after a loss.

There’s really no way to tell the people you already asked to be your bridesmaids that they no longer make the cut without hurting their feelings.

I agree with Ellen. But maybe you can do something a little special for everyone else. Maybe that takes them out to drinks or give them a little gift with a heartfelt letter.

To me what's so special about standing up in someone's wedding is that you know the bride loves you and wants to make you an apart of their day. So now that they can't stand up with you, I would still try to show my love from them...

Maybe if you had your sister(s) or future sister in law(s) you can just keep them in the party. You can just tell the others that you’re doing a smaller ceremony and just want family in the wedding party. If not - then I agree with the PP and just have a MOH. Have they already bought dresses for the wedding?

They can still be honorary bridesmaids and not actually be in ceremony. They can still be a part of the festivities and feel included leading up to and during the reception. You can have their names listed on programs. Or they can purchase their own attire and still be in the wedding.
