Bridesmaid attire to get ready

Lia, on February 13, 2017 at 9:34 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 34

Hey! So originally, I wanted to give my girls cute robes to get ready in before the wedding but I've talked to a bunch of women who tell me how impractical they are and they often end up wearing something underneath so that it doesn't open up. Also, they say nobody ever really wears them again. Trying to think of other cute things we can all wear besides robes or shirts that say BM, MOH, etc. Any other ideas???

    Cute pajamas!

Also let vendors comment. They give great advice and can't advertise.

I'd let them just wear what they are comfy in.

I wouldn't get anything with MOH or BM on it. They will never use it or wear it again.

I'd def use robes if I got them haha but I second the no MOH or BM. At first I was thinking I'd put their names but even that I feel like might be a turn off. So whatever I do I'd most likely not embroider it.

I'm so glad to see a post about this. I was surprised to learn the general opinion on robes is that they're a waste. I was MOH in my best friend's wedding last year and I was really surprised (and a little disappointed) when she didn't give us robes (I thought that was pretty much the standard practice). I ended up getting my hair and makeup done in a regular shirt, and my hair got a little messed up when I had to pull my shirt over my head and put my dress on.

So now I'm debating whether I get my bridal party robes or not. I don't want them to be disappointed like I was, but if everyone thinks they're a waste, maybe I shouldn't. I'm getting married in July so I think something like flannel shirts will be too hot. Is the general consensus that it's okay to just skip giving them something to wear morning of?

@Greenleaf, yes there's no requirement to give everyone something to wear morning-of. It's good practice to wear a buttoned shirt (or robe, same function), so your hair doesn't get messed up as you experienced though!

I did monogrammed button down shirts, but all of my girls will re-wear them so I felt comfortable getting it for them (unlike the robe sitting in my closet waiting to be donated to goodwill). For those wanting cute pictures, I've seen mix and match photos where the girls are just asked to wear a flannel/button down/plaid shirt they already have, so everyone is still in a similar but personalized outfit!

How about whatever they want? they aren't your props, they can wear whatever the hell the deem fit.

Greenleaf- I doubt they'll be disappointed to miss out on a cheap ass robe, one less thing to toss in the trash after.

I agree with @Britny. If you get something with BM or MOH, they will never wear them again.

The pics look cute, but I'm just letting my girls wear whatever they want. I'll suggest shirts that are easy to get out of so hair and makeup isn't ruined.

Matching during getting ready does make for cute pictures. If you get them nice ones, they can use them again. This isn't treating them like "props", it's giving them a gift. SOME people actually like wearing robes.

My girls are wearing whatever they want the morning of. They dont have to match each other. Let them wear whatever they are comfortable in

I got tanks bc I know it's what I would want to wear. I'm all for what's practical but it goes out the window a little bit once you factor in jewelry and such bc it's geared more towards your theme. I tried to stick with what they would want to wear again but it's difficult to prep for an entire bridal party of what everyone would wear again bc everyone is different. I personally didn't go with robes simply bc I never wear one.
