Brides with a lazy eye - Helpppp a sister out!

Michelle, on May 23, 2019 at 3:58 PM Posted in Planning 0 17
I have a lazy eye which I had surgery on as a child and, unfortunately, it didn't work. My lazy eye or as I call it, my crazy eye, is more noticeable when I'm tired or stressed.

It makes me look like I'm not looking at the camera when I really am. Honestly, It makese nervous that I'm spending soooooo much money on photos & I'm do afraid my pictures will come out horrible!

I'm very nervous about corrective surgery but if I get over my fear my pictures might come out nicer.

Any thoughts? Suggestions? Help a sister out, lol 😁😁😁

Maybe tell your photographer and ask if they can try to have you pose at angles where that eye isn't in the picture as much? Like pictures of you and your FH looking at each other, or where your head is turned to the side so you can only see the one eye? They are professionals so they should be good at hiding your insecurities!

Definitely what Gen said! You can hardly see my eyes in most of my pictures. I'm looking down or away or at my husband, etc. I'd just make it a point to chat with your photographer and let him/her know you're concerned about it and see if they have any suggestions. If corrective surgery was already unsuccessful I'd be hesitant to try it again.

I am in the same position. It only shows when I’m tired or stressed also. I asked my photographer to only shoot me from different angles other than head on.

I’ve been told that there’s nothing they can do for my eye, I had the corrective surgery when I was younger as well. Did a doctor recommend that you redo it?

    Lazy eye brides unite!

Tell your photographer and see she if she's ever worked with a lazy-eyed bride before. Maybe she even has some tips for 'capturing focus' or can take a few extras to get the best eyes forward shot possible. You never know!

It *might* also be something she can touch up in Photoshop, but don't quote me on that. When I smile, my eyes get very squinchy and small. I had a headshot photographer take my eyes from a non-smiling pic and put them on a smiling pic and it turned out great!

I don't have a lazy eye, but I do have severe problems with my eyes which have led to some incredibly painful procedures, and has made it so that I can no longer wear contacts (and I can't see anything without glasses). I am 4 months out from the wedding and I had a surgery on my eyes which left them massively black and blue with bloody tears. Granted, I've had ample time to heal, and I look normal again (aside from looking frumpy with no makeup and with glasses), but there's a good chance they will have to redo the procedure. Because my condition is so painful, I'd redo the procedure even a week before. It's worth it!

If it were a lazy eye I would say, don't worry about the photography! A good photographer should be able to capture your good side and edit anything that looks funky. Maybe wear some flashy earrings to distract from eyes? That's my plan :-)

Edit: Also, you are probably more aware of it than anyone else. Half the time I don't even really notice a lazy eye until either someone points it out or after several times I'm meeting someone it'll finally click. It probably adds character anyway :-)

Definitely talk to your photographer about poses & angles as pp suggested.

You can also 100% correct this in Photoshop, if it’s visible in some photos. I don’t have lazy eye, but I know Photoshop lol & this is fairly easy to do, even you can learn how to do it by yourself if you want. So don’t be nervous, just relax & enjoy the experience, knowing it can be fixed after, if necessary!

I have a prosthetic eye, which is similar in appearance to a lazy eye. I second everyone's recommendations -- I know there are certain angles that work better for me in photos, and I'd imagine it's the same for you. Don't be afraid to be up front with your photographer and tell them what your best angles are! I also wear glasses, which I think hide the differences between my eyes somewhat. If you don't have glasses already, I obviously wouldn't recommend getting them just for the wedding, but if you're wavering between contacts and glasses like I was, you might consider the glasses route Smiley smile. I was really happy with how I looked with my glasses on, but if no glasses is your style, then rock it! I don't really have any recommendations on the surgery vs. no surgery question, but that's my two cents.

Most importantly, as someone who was recently married, take it from me -- your wedding day will be one of the best days of your life! All the people who love you -- your fiance, your family, your friends -- think you're beautiful just the way you are. Trust me, I've never seen a bride who looked anything but radiant and stunning. You'll look gorgeous no matter what, lazy eye and all! Smiley heart

I have a lazy eye as well, which can also be seen when I'm really tired. I did eye therapy in middle school, which REALLY helped! I would definitely recommend that if you've never done it! My lazy eye was super noticeable growing up until I did eye therapy... now most people don't even know I have it unless I make my eye go crazy lol. My doctor had patients from all ages, and they teach you how to control your eye where it'll go straight!
