Brides who didn’t use a wedding website

Candace, on February 23, 2020 at 1:13 PM Posted in Planning 0 15
What was your experience with not using a wedding website. My fiancé doesn’t want one. And I’ve never heard of them until I got engaged.

We didn’t use one for our destination wedding.

But because for our local reception we wanted guests to dress in 50’s/60’s attire, we made one and posted photos. Then we also added local hotel info in case guests wanted to stay the weekend.

I had one, it was ever so slightly helpful but you don’t need it

I think they are helpful if you have a lot of out of town guests! But if your guests are mostly local I don’t think it’s necessary.

To be honest, what is the point of one? Seems like a waste of time. Focus your energy on other parts of the planning process. Wedding websites are just “fluff.” You

We don't have one and it has been no problem.

We have one because that’s how we’re doing RSVPs. My sister didn’t have one and there was no issue.

We made a 1 page info sheet, and e mailed one per person getting an invitation. I have never found any couple's website worth a hoot, so I couldn't see a point. All but a handful of guests, we either see or regularly exchange letters with. So for a ? They would not hesitate to pick up the phone , or email.

Before there were wedding websites, there tended to be more cards in an invitation--accommodations, directions, etc. And mentioning your registry was strictly forbidden, unless someone directly asked you where you were registered.

We kept the size of our invitations down by having all that information, plus an online RSVP form, on our wedding website. But the website is not necessary. You just have to figure out what works best for you.

I think they’re super fun and useful for reasons already posted. Also, I admittedly enjoy stalking others’ websites for registry items and general ideas lol.

If you're doing a hotel block, they're pretty useful. We have two and there are codes and prices involved and it is so much easier to tell people to check the website than to walk every out of town guest through the process individually. Of course, they're not necessary. But if you're worried about getting specific information to a large group of people, it's pretty nice.

They are super helpful. I can’t imagine doing a wedding without our website. We did RSVPs (we have multiple events for our wedding weekend and guests only see and can only respond to the events they’re invited to), room blocks, info on alternative lodgings, travel info (nearest airports, car rentals and driving times), FAQs about the location and things to to and dress code and schedule and travel times between different events, etc, etc. We put maps and also photos of the of the area so people could get excited. Oh and registry info. We’re only doing a honeymoon fund but it allows you to combine multiple registries if you want. With no website, I’d be answering the same questions over and over from each one and every guests. Website is set it up once and and direct everyone there.

I think its a waste of time. I created one and put in a lot of time an effort only for everyone to not use it anyway. Save time.

I didn't use one and I totally didn't see a need to. I didn't feel like anyone would look at it regardless.

I thought they were pretty stupid until I actually played around on Zola - it's become super helpful. You can include hotel blocks/accommodations, your registry, RSVP and breakdown of events and locations all housed in the same place. It's 2020, it's easier for most people to check their phone for an address than hold on to a physical invitation all day. I've found it's very customization as well, so you don't have to include the "fluff" how we met story, pictures, all of those pages can be hidden.
