Brides who did Sparkler Send-offs!! i need you!

Carol, on June 7, 2018 at 11:55 AM Posted in Wedding Reception 1 19
Hey again everyone!

I plan to do a sparkler send off and have a few questions! (Yes it’s allowed with my venue Smiley smile)

what is the cheapest site to purchase from? (The real wedding sparkler type!)

what are the pros and cons of purchasing ‘real wedding sparklers’ vs higher quality ones from Walmart?

What size sparkler do you recommend? How long did what size you got last?

How long did your entire send off last/how many guests were present?

Im expecting 50-60 people at most and am not sure if everyone will stay for the send off!!

Word of advice: Make sure your guests aren't too drunk when you hand them these - last wedding I went to that had them one of the bridesmaids' dress caught on fire because a guy absent mindedly let his sparkler hang next to him and it touched her dress

Lol what a funny wedding story (although not at the moment I’m sure!)

we are only having a short dinner and cake until we leave, no alcohol will be served.

Haha then I think you should be fine! It was pretty funny - nobody got hurt luckily and the bridesmaid seemed to take it in her stride Smiley smile

The ones I have used at weddings are the longer ones. Like two feet long or so. I think these are needed over the regular 4th of July ones because they usually light everyones sparklers, which takes a few moments, then the couple comes through (typically with a photographer). If you had the normal/ short ones, I think the first people to have theirs lit would go out before everyone else was done. This is assuming you have a bigger sized wedding, though.

So my wedding hasn't actually happened yet... but I've been to weddings with sparkler send off and am planning on doing one for my wedding. From advice I've been given and things I've experinced:

We decided for around 100 guests to order 140 of the 20 inch sparklers that should last 2 minutes from sparklersrus.com. (We tested one and the time seems like plenty to get us through a 60-70 person send off line.) Not everyone will stick around to the send off and we want heavy sparklers for pictures (2 per person)! We're fully expecting to have sparklers left over, but plan on reselling them or using them on New year's, etc.

Like I said, ours hasn't happened yet but those are our expectations if that helps you plan at all! One of my friend's weddings was a little larger (around 130 guests) and they ran out of sparklers because they only ordered 100 of the 10 inch sparklers, which didn't give enough time for everyone to get them burning and set up for the couple. Even though less than half of their guests stuck around to the send off, they regretted not ordering enough for everyone to have 2.

My venue coordinators just told us to definitely get the 36 inch ones! Lighting all the sparklers can take like a minute or so and so if the shorter sparklers are dead by two minutes, you barely have time.

We had 36 inch sparklers at our wedding. We purchased them from https://www.sparklersrus.com/

We ordered about 120 (we had 172 guests), and there were maybe 40 people who stuck around till the end. We have a lot left over, and I'm still trying to figure out what to do with them. Maybe we will use them for the 4th of July!

These are the ones I used: http://www.weddingsparklersoutlet.com/36-inch-wedding-sparklers-package.html

I scoured deals and reviews and these were great! I don't know the exact amount of time they lasted, but it was at least 4 minutes. The regular sparklers, even high end ones, can give off more smoke which you definitely don't want. You need to account for all the sparklers to be lit and have plenty of time for you to exit without the first ones you lit burning out.

We have exactly 60 guests, but I'd say about 40 were still there. My siblings and a few other guests with little kids left early. Since it was a smaller group, our videographer had us go through the line twice. Make sure you have space large enough as well. We had a space picked out, but for 36" sparklers from both sides, you definitely need a large enough space to go through.

I work at a venue that allows sparklers - I always wanted to do this to, but the more I've assisted with these as a bridal attendant, the more I hate them.

    1. Make sure your venue has buckets (more than two) on hand so people can dunk them when your photo's are done.

    2. Use sparklers that are long minimum 24" - they burn fast

    3. Make sure there is more than one person working to light the sparklers (see #2)

    4. If you have any inclination that your guests may get drunk, please don't do this - I had to coordinate a group for a bride and groom a few weeks ago, this was literally the only set of shots that the bride desperately wanted, and her guests were so drunk, waving the sparklers around, moving from the line we set them in for the photographer, I was waiting with my finger on speed dial for the fire department. If they are waving the sparklers around too much, I've seen sparks that have often just missed the brides dress.

    5. Depending on the size of the crowd, I have seen this take anywhere from 10-30min to get people ready, 1-5min to get all the sparklers lit, and then roughly 3min for the photos (again, see #2).

Personally, I've been waning on my desire to have this at my wedding, but my advice if you do is to consider the above, then possibly only do this with your bridal party or immediate family. It doesn't have to be a large group to be a beautiful and romantic picture. It might even be nicer with a small group, and it's better coordinated, fewer people to listen to instructions, and hopefully less chances to have an issue.

    Good luck OP!
