Brides that are Moms

Katarina, on September 23, 2019 at 11:37 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 8
I am getting married soon and I have a 7 year old daughter. I’ve been wanting to do a mother-daughter dance for her and I. I know this isn’t typical and everything I’m finding online for song choices are for the typical mother-daughter dance. Has anyone else ever done this? If so I’d love to hear song ideas and how it went. If not, I’d still love to hear some song ideas that would be great to possibly use. Thanks so much!

I love the song Forever Now by Michael Buble! It’s the song we are doing for our father/daughter mother/son dance, but I think it could totally be used with you and your daughter too!

I love the idea. I really love You Mean The Whole Wide World To Me by Christina Perri. It was written for her daughter. Is there a movie or show with a song she really loves?

The song daughter picked for us was definitely less traditional. Her whole life, I've always called her "our firework." The Katy Perry song came out when she was in high school, and going through a tough time. Much to her total embarrassment at the time, I sang it to her frequently -- and loudly. Midway through the reception, she surprised me when she came and grabbed me as the DJ started the song. We joyously danced and sang along, eventually surrounded by most of her girl friends. Those are some of my favorite candids from the photographers and videographers from the entire day. If you have a song that's meaningful to you and your daughter, I'd go with that over a more traditional mother-daughter wedding selection. Smiley heart

I'm doing a dance with my 1 year old son and inviting all the parents with littles to join us about 45 seconds in. I'm using Over the Rainbow by Israel K because my son relaxes to it and enjoys it. With an7 year old, I could imagine you could have a fun M-D dance or a heartfelt one. Smiley smile

My daughter chose All of Me by John Legend. I love it... sort of worried about its appropriateness but also sorta don't care :-)

Thank you for posting this! Seeing the responses makes me want to do this more. My daughter is 17. I was thinking we would dance to "I Lived" by One Republic or "Just The Way You Are" by Bruno Mars.
