Brides request

Kelli, on June 1, 2019 at 12:56 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 10
Hi, bridesmaid here and just made an account to get some feedback:
Is it unreasonable for a bride to require that her bridesmaids use the seamstress of her choice for bridesmaid dress alterations even if the bridesmaids already have a reliable seamstress?

That does seem a bit ridiculous to me. I’m not anticipating my MOHs even needing alterations and if they need or want alterations it’s completely up to them. Is it just alterations to make the dress fit better, or is the bride wanting the dresses altered in a specific way?

Yeah, that seems a bit over the top. Is there a reason she wants everyone to use the same seamstress? Is there like a group discount or something that only works with x number of people? If that's the case, I get it (save everyone some money). Otherwise, you should be free to go to anyone you'd like. The only other reason would be if she is paying for alterations for everyone.

Requiring is unreasonable, yes. I can understand if all the bridesmaids had the same dresses and the bride's seamstress is familiar with them/has special requests/special discounts. If the bride is paying, I would personally use that person to save some money. If pricing or trust was an issue and it wasn't necessary look wise to stick with the bride's seamstress then

Yea it is kind of weird unless they're related somehow or there's a discount.

Just basic alterations. Luckily, the only thing I need is a hem!

She hasn’t mentioned anything about a group discount, but I would just go with her seamstress if the whole group could get the discount! The bride is not paying for the alterations nor is it someone she has a personal relationship with. All of the bridesmaids dresses are very different styles.

If the bride is paying for alterations, no. If she is expecting BMs to pay for alterations, yes, it's unreasonable.
I offered to pay for my MOH's alterations so she is going to the same seamstress I am going to with my wedding dress. If she had to pay, I'd say she's well within her right to take it to whoever she wants.

I don't even see why she would want to be involved in any way, shape or form with your alterations. If she isn't paying for your dress or alterations, she has no reason/right to require a specific seamstress work on the dress.

That doesn't make any sense whatsoever. If you already have a seamstress, go with that one!
