Bride's Processional Song HELP!!!!!

Kari1886, on June 28, 2009 at 3:18 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 26

I'm curious how many brides are walking down the aisle to a modern song. Something other than "here comes the bride, all fat and wide" My FH thinks that is the only song you can walk down the aisle to, and I was thinking about walking down the aisle to Mazzy Star "Fade into You" instrumental version. That song has meaning to my FH and I, but he think it's very non traditional and thinks that no one does that. Sooo I would like for you all to let me know if it's ok to do that, and who all if anyone is walking down the asile to something non traditional.

Thanks!

Congratulations on your upcoming wedding! These days, it seems that 'Bridal Chorus' (Here Comes the Bride) is the non-traditional piece. You can really have whatever you think is appropriate. We play three or four weddings each week, and are asked to play anything from Bach 'Brandenburg Concerto' to 'Locomotive Breath'. Just make sure that if you are in a church, you have approval from your priest/minister. Good luck!

I think your idea is a good one. I think have a personalized song that means something to you and your man is not only modern but romantic. It will make your ceremony unique. Congrats!

We're having a very small, intiment wedding with about 50-60 ppl attending. So, we are all walking down to Canon in D. I thought about doing something different for when I walk down, but it's an outdoor wedding and so informal, that we decided to just all walk down to that.

It's pretty rare that a bride walks down the aisle to Here Comes The Bride! I would say only about 1 in 20 or 30 weddings we DJ walk down to that song! Brides are choosing songs that have meaning to them and are special to them!

I like your sense of style! Use your creativity in your ceremony making it your own...just the two of yours...unique and unforgettable. There is nothing wrong with traditional but often it's the couples that think outside the box whose ceremonies linger in the memories of their guests long after the flowers have faded and the champagne bottles have been emptied.

I love that song! I am using an acoustical version of somewhere over the rainbow.. I LOVE it! I came home from work one day and my FH told me not to move, played the song and asked what I thought.... PERFECT was my answer!

    Hi Kari,

Congratulations on your upcoming wedding. These days, couples are using all kinds of songs that are meaningful to them. I've been playing more and more non-traditional songs as processionals. As Rondo pointed out, if your ceremony is taking place in a church, it is important to check with the church music director. Some churches may have certain restrictions.

Whether classical or modern, the piece should have a tempo that is comfortable to walk to. As a musician, I look for something that can be extended or ended gracefully. I would also caution you about using anything too cutesy or faddish as it may sound very dated in a year or so.

If you are having musicians play live music, you might ask then for suggestions and be aware that not every pop song sounds great on every instrument.

    Best wishes,

Hi. I will be walking down the aisle to "You Do Something To Me" by Paul Weller. It has a special meaning to my Fiance and I and it just wouldnt feel right if I didnt walk to that song. Ive had mixed comments about not walking down the aisle to the traditional "here comes the bride" to not wanting to carry a bouquet. I say go with "Fade into You", its a great song and its your day!!!! You'll remember it for the rest of your lives so you and your husband to be should do what you feel and what represents you as a couple and as future husband and wife. Best of luck! =)

I am getting married on July 4th and searched high and low for the processional that would be just right. I didn't like the traditional "Here Comes The Bride", but found a version of it that was absolutely gorgeous and drew me to tears. It is the Bridal March by Jonathan Cain. It is a piano instrumental and was absolutely beautiful. It may not be right for you, but you can hear it on jonathan cain's website. I do believe it comes from the album, For A Lifetime. It took me a bit of searching to find where to download it for the cheapest price, but I think it might be something you would like.

I hate that traditional wedding processional. It's so boring and DONE. lol Of course you can do something different. It's your wedding. You make the rules. Smiley laugh Some friends of ours played Canon in D - Johann Pachebel for the Processional and Star Wars Epiode I: The Phantom Menace for the Recessional.

After debating about a song to walk down the aisle to for a long time, it was my Mom who made the suggestion. I'm walking down the aisle to her favorite song, What a Wonderful world by Louis Armstrong. I think it sums up the day beautifully. Good luck! and Congrats on your wedding!

A friend of mine was walking down the aisle to "Anagoda Davida" (not sure of the spelling), but I thought her wedding was totally true to her. And that's what matters to me at least. Talk to your FH, and remind him, at no point do you HAVE to do anything a certain way. This day is meant for the two of you, no one else.

The last wedding I DJ'd, the bride came down the isle to "At Last" by Beyonce, even though personally there is nothing like the remastered Etta James version. Processional and Recessional traditional songs are traditional for a reason...they are memorable, they make the hair stand up on the back of your neck with emotion, and they WORK! The day I don't feel that emotion when most brides walk down the aisle to "Here Comes the Bride" then I will hang up my DJ hat. 95% of my brides choose traditional music for the ceremony, and it is lovely. I realize it is 2009, but most of these new songs will not stand the test of time and be memorable in 10 years, much less 25 to 30 years. And remember, trendy is great for the moment, but this moment will last a lifetime in your memory.
