Bride’s male friend as a groomsman

Kelly, on July 9, 2019 at 4:39 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 17
I want my closest male friend to be in the wedding party. FH is fine with him being a groomsman and knows him but they’re not best friends or extremely close. Who should ask him to be a groomsman? Me or FH? Either of us are happy to ask, just curious on opinions of what you would do!

I would say to have your FH ask because it would feel more meaningful to your friends to know that he wants them up there as well.

My 3 best friends from high school (who I am still best friends with to this day) are actually going to be my ushers. I really wanted them in the wedding, but felt bad asking my FH to have them on his side since they are friends but not BEST friends (yet...).

Why not have him on your side?

How about asking him together? You could have him over, or invite him out to drinks, and both ask Smiley smile

You said he's your closest male friend but will be your fiances groomsmen? I would say then have your FH ask since he will be in his party however since he's mainly your friend have you considered making him a bridesman? My best friend is also a male and he's going to be my bridesman!

Have him on your side and ask him! I have a guy on my side, hes one of my best friends, and while FH knows him and is also friends with him, he will be standing up on my side.

Why would he be your fiancé’s groomsman if he’s your friend?

I second having him on your side! I had one of my best guy friends on my side, and his girlfriend (the four of us are really close) was on hubs’ side.

I agree with lots of people here that if he’s one of your closest friends then have him on your side.

I have my best male friend on my side. He’s gonna be my man of honor. You can do the same or like some have said a bridesman.

I agree with everyone else. I have two bridesmen in my wedding party. Have him stand with you. 🙂

We were in a similar situation - my H wanted his 2 sisters as bridesmaids (I asked them) and I wanted one of my best friends (also friends with H, just not as close - he asked him). We essentially chose our people together and thought of it as one big party - just had all the girls stand with me, and the guys with H. You could also easily ask him to be on your side!

We're having my best guy friend as a groomsman, and FH's sister as a bridesmaid. I asked her, FH asked him. We're having my guy friend stand with FH for symmetry in numbers as well as guys/girls. I did bridesmaid proposals for the girls with things my guy friend wouldn't really be interested in, so having FH ask him seemed like the best option. I'll probably write him a separate thank you note to add to his gift we'll hand out at the rehearsal dinner though.

Have your FH ask him because it shows that your FH wants him standing up and it's not just telling your FH he has to. It makes it more meaningful and will hopefully open up the door way for them to become better friends.
