Has anyone done this or have you seen it done? Our officiant mentioned he's seeing it more and more often. So rather than ushers releasing rows after the ceremony the bride and groom are going back down so they can greet each person. We had already nixed the idea of a receiving line and we would still go table to table even if we do this. It seems like a nice, personal touch but curious about how it works in practice.

I have been to one wedding where they did this. Honestly it was long especially for the people in the back or people with kids. Also not everyone is comfortable doing this. The nose thing with a receiving line is that the people who don't feel comfortable are not forced to wait and do anything.

I did this when I married my late husband, and am totally doing it again this time. It goes WAY faster than the traditional receiving line, because everybody just wants to say a quick congrats (to only the bride and groom, no other bridal party or parents) and move on their way out. The bride and groom do their exit, take 2 minutes to gather their wits, and come back in to dismiss. During the 2 minutes your out in the hallway, your Officiant tells everyone to please stay seated because Sue and Ken would like to personally greet you on your way out of the church.
