Bride and Brother dance in Lieu of Deceased Father

Diana, on August 11, 2023 at 12:56 AM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 2
Without getting too far into the details I never got meet my father. My mother kept me from him for selfish reasons. When I discovered who he was I was 14 years old. Today I am 46 years old and just a month before my wedding I found out where he was. I learned not only did he pass away 31 years ago but he left behind a sister and 2 brothers from his second marriage (I’ve never had brothers!). I’m told by my new siblings our father always loved me, thought of me, and spoke about me and hoped to find me one day but that day never came before he passed. Now my brother will dance with me at my wedding in my father’s place but I can’t for the life of me find a suitable song to play. Please help! My wedding is less than 10 days away!!!

Oh wow, what an incredible story! I’m so glad you got to build a relationship with your new siblings in time for your wedding! Does your brother know of any songs or bands that your dad liked? I would also still look at lists for mother/son dances because there are almost no songs with lyrics on point for that, so most of the suggestions are songs with platonic lyrics/have uplifting messages. Off the top of my head, maybe either Lean On Me or You’ve Got a Friend in Me since he’s stepping up for you in this moment.

My husband and I used this song at our wedding to dance with our adult children. Great lyrics for your occasion. ... dad is "somewhere over the rainbow" (somewhere over the rainbow) https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=v1bfr2swp1i
