Bridal suite Drop in bagel & coffee goodbye breakfast?

Brittany, on January 3, 2022 at 5:01 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 6
We’re on a tight budget So a full out brunch the next day is out of the question. But my family is all coming from out of town while grooms is all local (but not bug enough to invite the entire wedding guest list to their house). I can’t find a hotel with an included breakfast in the vicinity but I’d really like to offer something to out of towners plus I live the idea of spending a bit more time with everyone and getting to say goodbye/thank you. Is it weird for me to host bagel/donut/coffee in my hotel suite for anyone to drop in for the next morning?? Any experience/advice with this? Any other suggestions welcome!

Someone probably has more experience with this, but what you’re describing is so considerate of your guests in town, and I know they’d appreciate it ❤️
My only other thought/question is do you know someone who lives in the area? If so, would they be willing to open their home for a couple of hours to do this? No need for unnecessary decorations or anything. I’m sure the hotel suite is convenient, but I personally wouldn’t be willing to organize my room or get up early enough to do so 😆 But that might just be me!

Is there a local park venue or community center you can rent if someone’s home isn’t big enough for an open house? Otherwise it is ok and common to skip the day after brunch, especially if your finances don’t allow for it.

Since you want to socialize longer, start a tradition of a family reunion picnic held at another time (3-6 months later? Send a group email that gives everyone a chance to save the date) at an inexpensive local parks department owned venue where you can meet up with everyone and pay more attention to them. Whomever has finances available arranges local restaurant drop off catering. That way it gives everyone something else to look forward to during the year and is pressure taken off your shoulders.

This is a great idea! One of our friends did this recently and it was a simple but gracious touch. We will be doing a bagel/coffee send off the morning after, as well.

Does your hotel have a breakfast area or small gathering space in the lobby where you could do this? Im only concerned that depending on the number of people youd expect and the size of your suite it could get pretty cramped. If youre not concerned about space then I think this is a great and thoughtful idea.

I don’t think it would be weird but I’d worry it would be cramped, depending on room size and guest count. So, I’d look into if there are other spaces in the hotel, maybe a conference room that is available, or even a shared common space (lobby area, pool area, outdoor area, etc). It might not be totally private but there’s often places in hotels to sit and hang, so even taking over a corner of a larger room could work too. We had a small “party” before the last wedding I went to — friends just brought drinks and snacks to the pool area … though that did have the benefit of being in sunny California 🤣

It’s not weird, but like prior posters I would worry about space in the suite accommodating everyone.
