Bridal Stores and Hollow to Hem

Rose, on August 20, 2015 at 11:58 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 10

Hello! I want a dress and love where it sits on me (I am 4'11) I am looking to order it from a place I can trust in Toronto or Ontario) I am hearing different things from different stores)

Can anyone recommend a good priced bridal store with amazing cheap alterations orrr an independent alterations person? I know I would need a bussel, sides taken in and pads as well as a hem on the front - unless does anyone know if a hallow to hem alters the dress? I keep getting different answers from different stores..

So hard to trust people!!

Hollow to hem is a measurement, not an alteration.

When you ask, so you get the correct answer, it is bustle.

I have seen pictures that people posted with a before when they tried on the dress in the store and when they recieved their hallow to hem - where the dress sat was completely different from the original and one other bridal store told me it will alter the dress to your body proportions

I had a free hollow to hem as part of the trunk show I purchased my dress from. It fit like a glove when it came in. They measured me to be in the height of heels I wanted and it does not need to be hemmed at all. The only alterations I need is a bustle and cups added.

So it does not alter it, but it means they make it specific to your measurements. They still ordered me a specific size (2,4,6...) but I think they made it more towards my measurements within the size I ordered.

Okay awesome. So it didn't change anything where the dress fell, etc.?

Also - can anyone recommend a good bridal store in Toronto?

Rose, the before and after shots look different because they are completely different sizes. The original dress is a sample size and the new dress was custom made to their measurements. The new dress does fit/fall differently because it actually fits.

It sounds like you've actually tried this dress on. Why don't you want to order it from the place you found it?

Looking for the best price. Googling reviews - people have had nightmares with alterations - I would like some feedback of someone who had experiences recently with tier overall dress experience

Hallow to Hem is the measurement from the hallow of your neck/collarbone to the hem (with the shoes you will wear). If you try on a dress that is much longer than your measurements, it will change where the waist hits/etc. They take your hallow/hem and proportion the dress based on that.

It wouldn't be that much that would need to be taken off - so it kind of concerns me

So why don't you order the size you tried on? I've done zero research on hollow to hem dresses, but a simple hem would probably cost less.

ETA: And it will probably come in faster.
