Bridal Stockings / Nylons

Heidi, on December 31, 2018 at 10:37 AM Posted in Planning 0 15

I am a professional, so I wear nylons daily have done this my whole life. I feel not finished without them. I am learning to wear nylons for the wedding, I would probably feel weird or uncomfortable without them. My question is, I know that nylons/stockings are not a norm anymore, do you plan to or did you wear nylons for your day? Am I being too old fashioned?

I’m absolutely not wearing nylons on my wedding day. I don’t wear them any other day so that seems odd to do that.

I did not wear them, but I don't think you're being old fashioned. You're being yourself.

That said, a wedding dress can be very heavy and hot, and nylons would just add to it. Plus, they're not easy to pee in either so unless you wear thigh highs with garters you could be making it more difficult on yourself. 😊

If that's what you want, there isn't anything wrong with it.

I would have been miserable with them. My dress was so hot I stepped out into the 30 degree night and lifted my dress to get air flow. Adding one more layer, I might have had heat stroke. lol

I did not think about using the restroom, excellent point! The dress I am leaning towards is a A-line and almost like a ballgown. The wedding is also the end of September which can also be hot.

Thank you for bringing me to reality.

I agree it may be difficult to use the restroom in, but I don't see anything old fashioned in you being yourself.. It's your day do what works for you.

No, I’m not wearing nylons. Nothing is traditional about me on that day. I’m wearing my knee high striped socks that match hubby to be’s kilt and my Scottish lace up boots.

What type of shoes are you wearing? It wi be nice if ypur FH can touch your skin when he pulls of the garter... but it depends on your shoe as well... if you are wearing open toe shoes I wouldn't where stockings but if you are wearing a pump I don't see any harm in it if it makes you comfortable.

I'm wearing silk stockings with lace around the top and they will be white to match my dress. They only go to my thighs so they are thigh highs and they will have garters attached. I don't think it's old fashioned to wear them. Personally I think they look nice and I like the polished look of them. When I wear dresses or skirts I always wear pantyhose, tights or something on my legs especially if my dress is above my ankle. I will go without them if I'm at home or my dress is ankle length. I know it sounds old fashioned of me but it's how I was raised and it's what makes me feel comfortable. I think you should wear what you are comfortable with but I recommend thigh highs with garters as they will be more comfortable and easier to move around in. There are also knee highs which you could get to match your dress. If they make you feel comfortable and finished in your daily life I think that they would make you feel that way on your wedding day which is a good thing. I would choose some in a breathable material such as silk or cotton as nylon can be really hot.

    Hi Heidi.
You are NOT being old fashioned. I always wear tights when I’m in a dress or skirt. For reasons I won’t go into, I just feel better with them on. I would also like to note, I live in Florida. So it’s not like it’s cold often. I will also be wearing them under my dress, with either my Converse sneakers or my combat boots. As you can see, I’m not the most traditional type. 😊 I say wear them, if they get to be too much you can always take them off. It would be much easier to take them off than feel uncomfortable and try to put them on after you are dressed. 🥺 Good luck with what ever you decide!!!

I normally wear them when I wear a skirt suit for work. A lot of people say it's outdated but my legs are a shade of white that would blind an innocent bystander. Plus, shaving. haha. But I won't be for my wedding because I have open toed shoes, you won't see my legs, and I don't want another thing to deal with when going pee.

I think I stopped wearing nylons in the late 90’s... and never looked back! I ordered chunky heels from Shoes of Prey, no stockings. I hate shoes though. Love boots & tennis shoes. Wish I wore boots but I only have black ones (still don’t think it would have shown in photos).

I dont normally wear stockings/nylons but I saw these and I had to have them. My dress is knee length and 1950s style so my legs will be seen.

I will absolutely wear nylons. I was raised traditional that way. Any formal(ish) look is dors not feel complete without 'em.. I'm also dressed very vintagey (1950's) so it fits my aesthetic.
