Bridal Shower

Becky, on November 12, 2020 at 2:00 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 4

I am planning my niece's bridal shower and due to COVID the wedding is very intimate with only family invited. We have a large friend group and I want to include them in the shower. How should I word the invitations?

Any social group can host a shower even if they are not invited. Book clubs, churches and coworkers do it everyday.

Are the people you are inviting to the shower not invited to the wedding? If so you could say “Due to the ongoing situation with Covid-19, for everyone’s health and safety the bride and groom have chosen to host a very small wedding ceremony with immediate family only. However, they would still like to celebrate with their friends so we hope you will join us for a bridal shower.”

    That's good!

Yes, the issue is that they aren't invited to the wedding.

I understand small weddings (I had one). But it's confusing to me that you are saying the wedding needs to be small due to COVID, but the shower can have everyone. People can be exposed to COVID at showers.

If your friends are so close with your niece that they would give her a wedding gift no matter what (whether they were invited to the wedding or not), then they can just send her a gift without being asked. I think the large shower guest list is unnecessary and will cause guest confusion.
