Bridal shower this Sunday... not many registry gifts purchased?

Jessie, on August 18, 2020 at 10:22 AM Posted in Parties and Events 0 21
I'm just curious what other people's experiences with their registry and shower has been like. Also, we are not in a current hotspot. It's inside a resturaunt, but we have access to the patio outside. Ample space for Smiley heart0 people.

My shower is this Sunday. I am able to see that 8 people out of 28 shower guests have purchased gifts, they've all bought multiple gifts as well. (2 people unable to make it already sent us gifts). I have registries at 2 stores, one for bedding/bath, another for more kitchen/decor. Some more personal items on both. Wide price range, mostly between $10-$50. Only a handful of expensive gifts. Within the past few weeks, I've also made sure things can also be bought at stores for last minute shoppers who won't have time to order things.
What was your experience with this? Did a lot of people shop last minute? Or did a lot of people veer from the registry? I'm grateful for anything we receive, this is really out of curiosity. I am also not used to being the center of attention, and am nervous because I'm not planning, so I'm trying to prepare myself for surprises lol.

My experience has been people tend to purchase less from registries overall. I know I rarely use them.

Personally i have always just bought gift cards to the stores they were registered at, and put it in the card. the ONE time i took the time to figure out the crazy registry log in stuff all the things i could afford for them were already bought, and they actually had gift cards on the list, so i bought them the gift cards on their registry and it had them sent to the bride's house.

Good to know! We received a giftcard already and it appeared on the already purchased, so I wasn't sure if other people would do that. But I'm sure people prob buy them off the registry so they won't show.

I just had my shower this weekend. A lot of people bought things they wanted to give or gave cash/gift cards.

Also everything my mom got me she didn’t mark as purchased. So it might be that too

So I'm awful and wait till the very last minute to buy gifts for showers. And your guests may be the same way!

Good to know! I'm a little worried that some aren't marked purchased. Last thing I need is two air fryers lol.

There’s people who definitely don’t get you stuff on your registry either

You're not awful at all, I'm a last minute shopper too! I just haven't been to a bridal shower since I was a teen haha. But thanks for your input!

My best guess is that they either are getting you cash/gift cards or they are planning on bringing their gift to the actual wedding day instead of the

A lot of my stuff I got via mail because some weren't able to make it. My mom and my great aunt didn't mark their gifts as purchased on my registry either. So I had quite a few from my mom, like small things like an ice cream scooper and things. Also received some things that weren't on my registry which was very nice too.

I had my shower on Sunday, and it felt like the majority that brought gifts chose something from the registry. Having registered at Bed Bath and Beyond, too, I noticed that a lot of my registry items became unavailable at times depending on popularity. Others chose to give gift cards for the stores I was registered. I wouldn’t be too worried!

Almost all of my guests purchased gifts from my regustry for my shower, but most did so really close to the event. We also had some more personal gifts (handmade items from family members, items not from the registry) as well as gift cards for Target (where we are registered) and money toward the honeymoon. Im the same way about being the center of attention! I'm looking forward to my wedding but not so much that part!

I have never once used a registry as a guest. I always do a gift card or cash and write something nice in their card.

Only one person gave us a gift not on our registry. My husband's aunts gifted us a dining set that they split the cost on since it was a couple hundred dollar gift. My mom and one of my friends gave us the same gift. My mom felt bad since we didn't need two so she bought us a different item. A few gave us cash/gift cards.

In all honesty (and I truly mean this in a kind way), you will enjoy the whole wedding planning/anticipation experience much more if you kind of pretend you aren't getting any gifts at all. That way, you have no expectations and anything do you do get will just be a nice surprise.

People will of course bring/give you gifts, but worrying about gifts, keeping an eye on your registry, wondering who will give what and how much, etc., will only lead to more anxiety and potentially hurt feelings.

I think it's probably a mix, some people won't even bother to look at your registry and get you what they think you need or want, my mom is a good example of this, we go to a baby shower or a bridal shower and my mom buys what she wants to get the person. Some people will wait till the very last day especially during this time, some people will give you money, then there are the people who will buy you what you have on your registry, And then there will be people who don't give anything. I wouldn't be to concerned about it.

I guess I'm a minority based on most of these responses, but almost our entire registry was purchased, and probably 75% of it was weeks before our first shower.

That being said, I am a procrastinator when it comes to purchasing wedding/shower/birthday gifts. So maybe your friends are like me and will purchase last minute or just get you a gift card to the stores you registered at.

While we used a universal gift registry, we had tons of items on there from Crate and Barrel and I received Crate and Barrel gift cards from 4 separate people at my shower! A number of shower guests also purchased gifts together (so even though it may have appeared on the actual registry that one person had bought it, whereas it was actually two people together). A few went off of the registry, but the majority stuck to it. I don't think you have anything to be worried about.
