Bridal shower thanksgiving or NYE weekend?

Chip, on July 27, 2017 at 6:27 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 8

My mom and aunts are trying to plan a time for a shower for me with my mom's side of the family. The reason I'm involved with the planning is i have to travel from nashville to Chicago to attend, and I can't take any time off Jan-April. So our two thoughts are thanksgiving or NYE weekend because I'd have time off to travel anyway. Would anyone be offended by those dates? All of my family is local to my mom (besides me). I hate having it around the holidays because it's an added expense to an expensive time of year, but not having time off after January puts a limit on things

If I was close to you it wouldnt bother me. Its the only time you can do it, so do it and be happy with who shows up. Id probably do New Years weekend if it was me

As long as it is not on the holiday itself is cool. And i think both options are good too, but many of your guests may travel for Thanksgiving. Good luck!

Thanks! It would really only be aunts and cousins as our wedding will be in Tennessee, I have few friends still local to my mom that would be invited

Yeah, I wouldn't mind this if I was close to you. But you might just brace for a higher amount of declines. I don't know if I would prefer NYE weekend or Thanksgiving, but definitely not on the evening of 12/31 or the morning of 1/1.

And.... people love to go shopping black Friday, so have it that Sunday so they can score some deals on the gifts!

They would probably take place on Saturday, so two days after thanksgiving or the day before NYE, cause we would have to drive back (7hrs) sunday

My family actually threw me a surprise shower earlier in the day on NYE because it was when I was visiting (DH and I live across the country). It was mostly relatives with my MOH and her now husband and a couple of family friends who I call aunt and uncle, but it was a decently sized group.

I think Thanksgiving would be more difficult than New Year's because people are more likely to be traveling to see family, whereas people who have traveled to visit family around Christmas will be more likely to be back in town by New Year's.

That's a tough one, although if most of the attendees are local it may not be a huge issue. I would vote NYE, since it's less of a family holiday than Thanksgiving.
