Bridal Shower & Registry Etiquette

TheeOne2Love, on June 10, 2017 at 10:16 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 6

Ive seen previous advice on WW to not create a registry (or create a small one) and guests will get the hint to give cash/check if they choose to give a gift. So Initially we were not going to do a wedding registry. (We just moved in our home last fall so we bought everything new) My BP is throwing me a bridal shower. If I am correct etiquette says we NEED to have a registry for a shower. So how does this interfere with our initial plan? do we create a small one or create a regular registry and remove it after the shower? Just want to make sure I am doing it correctly. I was thinking of only having my BP include registry info in the shower invitations, leaving the registry info off of the wedding website then just deleting the registry after the shower. Right or nah?

We didn't want a registry either but once the wedding shower was decided I made a tiny one at target. Hysterical things was, we didn't get a single gift off the registry and most guests gave us gift cards for the house since we just bought a new home last year. So, I don't know if it matters to make a registry but might be a good idea to make a small one.

Agree with Robyn. A small registry of 5-10 items will be appropriate.

Thanks ladies! I was thinking about a small target one too.

A shower is to shower the bride with GIFTS. If you are having more than 5-10 shower guests, then you need a registry with more than 5-10 items. Otherwise what are guests supposed to give you once the 5-10 items have been purchased? If you want to delete the registry after the shower, that's fine. But if you are going to have a shower, you need to have an appropriate-sized registry.

I agree with Emily above. Create a registry with enough gifts for people to buy. I don't think I would ever show up to a shower without a gift (as in I would not give a gift card or cash because i would feel tacky doing so)... So then I would be blind shopping for the bridal shower. I suggest finding things you need / want and creating a registry. Delete registry after the shower.

Thanks ladies! That does make sense. I will create a regular registry and remove it after the shower.
