Or do the ladies that attend the bridal shower buy a separate gift for the bride and then buy something off the registry for the wedding gift?

Bridal shower and wedding gifts are two separate gifts, but you can plan accordingly and split up your gift budget between the two events! Opening gifts is a focal point of bridal showers, so you'll want to bring a physical gift off of their wedding registry with you to the shower.

I have always felt if you are honored with an invitation to the shower where they are feeding you and have put work into it, and the whole point it showering the bride it deserves an additional gift. If only one gift was the tradition why get some gifts early and nothing later? As much as you bless and honor people they should give something in return. I have had very tight funds at times but if I have to get cheaper gifts I just put more thought into it. If I forgot a gift at the shower I gave two at the wedding. The gifts may not be opened at the wedding but you better believe the bride notices who gifts are missing from. I am still hurting from the 50 guest that didn't show (or call to cancel) to my wedding in January and the nearly 80 that did show and brought no gift. Anything even a card saying well wishes and sorry that money is tight or a candle from the dollar store is better than nothing. Lesson- if you rsvp you are committed, period and whatever happens give something to whatever you go to. It's not about the gift it about the effort/thought.

The best gift ever is caricature from photo! It's always nice and original I guess. I like such gifts, it will be forever on the wall. So, if you need here's the website where I ordered: https://www.photolamus.com/

My niece is getting married in April. She has some very expensive items like a Kitchen Aid high end model Stand Mixer, and a complete set of pots and pans. Both are on her "Bridal Registry" at Macy's. Is this considered a shower gift or a wedding gift? Both of those items are close to $500.00 each! If I spend that kind of money, am I supposed to give another check in a card at the wedding too?

I ordered for my friends wedding their funny wedding caricature and they loved it!

So it is not important how expensive it is, most important is originality and how much you cared about it.

P.S. I ordered from these guys here

From Boston. Engagement party (if there is one) is a heartfelt card and if it is held in someone's home instead of a venue, a small hostess gift for whomever is hosting. Think of a bottle of wine, candle, etc.

Shower gift is always off the registry around $100 or so. It's usually a miss when guests take it upon themselves to pick out homegoods or decor for someone else. We got a couple of very sweet and thoughtful personalized items from Etsy etc and while very much appreciated, they are in boxes in our basement and will likely stay there until enough time has passed that we feel ok about throwing them away.

Wedding gift is a card with cash/check. Usually about $100 per person, so $200 if my husband and I both attend. Potentially higher if it's a couple with whom we're especially close.
