Bridal shower for couple who already lives together?

BlushWedding, on July 17, 2017 at 8:40 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 15

Just wondering what the general consensus was for a bridal shower for a couple who already live together but are both relatively young (24&30) and never married before? Is that normal? Inappropriate? Opinions?

@sarahm No of course not! My mom mentioned she thinks that it's gift grabby for anyone to have one that already cohabitates... I just thought that for your first marriage, if someone was throwing it for you, then it was completely normal and an acceptable part of planning.

My FH and I already live together and feel a bridal shower is inappropriate as we have pots, pans, etc.

If you want one, have at it. No one will tell you otherwise.

F that inappropriate noise. Fh and I have lived together for 4 years. When we first moved in together we bought a couch from the flea market for $15 because we couldn't afford anything else. We are in a MUCH better and more stable place, but the reality is buying stuff for the house isn't a priority right now. Being able to upgrade things and throw out 5 year old towels would be a god send.

My MOH AND my mom hosted 2 bridal showers for me. My family lives in NJ and I live in VA. FH and I have lived together for almost 3 years. I don't think it matters how long you've lived together. If someone wants to throw you a shower - go for it!

A lot of engaged couples live together before marriage. There's nothing out of the ordinary about still having a shower.

FH and I have lived together for 7 years. When my BMs offered to throw a shower, I was thrilled. We needed new sheets, pans, plates, etc. When we moved in together originally we pieced a house together. Now we have nice things that match lol

Thanks for the input! Our house is pieced together as well from hand-me-downs besides our living room set as well. I just would never want to come across as gift grabby, I of course know someone has to offer to host one - I was just talking to my mom about how anything pre-wedding would have to be on my weekends off like dress shopping etc (I'm an RN and mandated to work every other weekend - I can't even use vacation time to take a weekend off)

As long as someone is throwing it for you, it's not inappropriate. We need upgrades on everything! Every time something gets lost/broken/destroyed...i always forget to replace it. It's also going to be so nice to have adult things and not single college girl things. ETA: it IS inappropriate for someone to throw you a show so you can ask people for money.

Your Mom might still be living in the dark ages. It's totally fine. I had a shower, and H and I had been living together for 2 years. I mainly put upgrades on my registry, with a few new things I wanted.

We've lived together almost 3 years, just sold our house and will buy a brand new house next year. my mom, aunt, cousin are throwing me a shower... look at it as an oppertunity to upgrade all the old stuff, which we are doing.. bath mats, silverware, curtains, shower curtains, place mats, towels, etc. we will need it once our house is built.

We lived together for 3 years and my mom threw me a shower and it was very modest in her backyard and more of a get together. I did not register either.

My friends are having me one! We've lived together for two years, and my FH has been married before. I would love to get rid of some of our old stuff (towels, dishes, pillows, etc.) We are also those exact ages (24 & 30!) I see no problem with it! Smiley smile

I feel that is wrong this should be for a couple that don’t live together not for a couple that is living together. The point of a bridal shower is for a couple that is getting married and has nothing at all. Couples that are living together have everything they needed for the house. This my friends is what you call being greedy for getting more. Sorry that is what I think but everybody has their own opinion.
