Bridal shower and rehearsal dinner outfits

MM, on September 22, 2017 at 10:16 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 13

Hi friends!

My bridal shower is in about three weeks, and I'm debating outfits to wear for that and for our rehearsal dinner in a couple months. I have one short ivory dress, and go figure, stores are stocked with all darks for fall! I'm also plus sized (around 18-20), so it's not too easy to find outfits just hanging in JCPenney or Dillards that aren't super expensive or don't look weird.

I definitely want to wear a dress since this is Florida and we're basically still in summer. I'm comfortable in most everything, but I'd like some ideas. I notice a lot of people have strong opinions on outfits for these events..."pure white ONLY" "tea length or longer" "literally just wear clothing"...I even considered bright red just because it would really POP! Smiley laugh The shower is at FMIL's home, and our rehearsal dinner is at a nice restaurant.

What did you wear to your shower and to your rehearsal dinner? And where did you find your outfit? I'd love to know to get some ideas! Smiley smile

For the shower, I think it's traditional to wear white/ivory. Honestly, check Amazon for dresses. Just make sure to read the reviews - but I've had great luck buying clothes off Amazon. Also try looking at Rent the Runway, they have plus size options.

For the rehearsal dinner, I don't think you need to wear white. I've seen all sorts of colors at those! Just choose a dress you are comfortable in that suits the venue where the dinner will be held.

My shower will be a couples shower and hosted by FMIL side of the family. I opted for a white knee-length conservative style dress with a lace back since the scene will be cocktail with mostly an older crowd. For the rehearsal dinner, which will be held in a farm-to-table restaurant above a distillery, I wanted to do something different so I opted for a white strapless pantsuit with wide legs. Both outfits, I found in my local consignment shops in town. I love the designer look but not the designer price, and it was a good compromise.

In the same boat! Looking for something I can wear for rehearsal&rafter reception. We're having an after party atthe hotel rooftop bar we're staying at and I wanted to be able to change into something shorter for

That part. Still looking for something

You definitely don't need to wear white. I'm not sure when/where that started, but if you want to wear white, that's fine, you just don't 'need' to wear white. If you can't find anything in store, I highly recommend modcloth (online shop with a great refund policy), they have a wedding section where you can find white dresses all year long.

I would also suggest checking out City Chic for dress options. They were having a 30% off sale.

I'm not wearing white for either of mine! My shower is Oct. 21st so it most likely won't be cold since I live in AL. I might do a fall dress and boots?

I don't think the white at a shower rule is super hard-and-fast. i had 2 showers and wore a white lace long sleeved dress at one of them, but the other one was an evening mixed cocktail party so i wore something silver and sparkly. for my RD i wore a black maxi dress with a bunch of turquoise and gold jewelry to offset the dark colour.

ETA bought the shower dresses at the Bay, which you might be able to buy from online in the US--they have awesome dress selection! the RD dress i borrowed from my BFF.

Sameish size, got a dress from Old Navy. It's white, but I also might just wear a navy dress I got off Amazon because I know I look amazing in it. Bridal shower #1 is tomorrow, so I guess I'll decide tomorrow lol

I actually don't know anyone who wore white to either of these events. I did not have a shower, but if I had, I probably would have just worn a dress I already own. I wore a dress I already own for my rehearsal dinner. It was short, blue with white polka dots. Edit - comment posted too soon.

For the shower I wore a beige maxi dress with lavender flowers (ironically, lavender was the showers main color). For the rehearsal I plan on wearing a white knee length dress.

ETA: shower dress was in my closet. Purchased on a trip to Hawaii a few years ago. Rehearsal dress I bought at K & G.
