Bridal show scam??

Leah, on February 15, 2019 at 1:43 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 6
Hi everyone! So I went to bridalrama in Cincinnati last weekend and I just got a call from Registies Direct telling me that I won 2 jvljewelry.com wedding bands (still have to pay $25 for shipping) and an all inclusive 3 day 2 night stay at a viva Wyndham resort. All I have to do is go to a “cooking show” to look at what they sell. Does it sound like a scam? Anyone else been offered this and gone through with it???

The stay at the resort is a pitch to sell you a time share. Yes you get to stay for free but you have to listen to their like 4 hour spiel about why you should get a time share. If you want to sit through that and let them down )they are aggressive sales people) go for it. Of you dont want to deal with it all... pay for the trip you want.as for the rings. There are tons of posts on here about them. The quality has been argued both directions. The customer service argued both directions. Read them and figure out how you feel about them. We won them too and are planning on getting a pair to kick around for adventures and still order our nicer bands for formal occasions.

The resort isn’t for a timeshare pitch. She said there’s none of that and I don’t have to by anything. We have to go listen to a 1.5 hour pitch for their cookware that they sell. But she said flights aren’t included. I can’t decide if it’s worth our time because flights to these places would be like $1500 for both of us

My best practice is if you're going to spend money on an adventure... it should be one where you guys get to do exactly what you want. Especially for this once in a lifetime moment.

Yeah, it's not exactly a scam, but it is a marketing ploy to sell stuff. Some companies are selling cookware, others are selling timeshares. It's always something. You have to really price out what you get (for what cost), and what you'll have to add to that to make it complete trip (if you're planning for a honeymoon).

So, it just depends. Also, someone else implied the part about not necessarily getting what you want. Yes, you have less control over some of these "prizes."

We went to bridalrama as well and I haven’t gotten any calls. Sounds like a marketing thing, but not a scam.
