Bridal show scam or not?!

Lyndsey, on May 29, 2019 at 6:56 PM Posted in Planning 0 4
Hey guys! So I have never been to a bridal show or anything like it but I did register for one thinking I was going to be able to go but I wasn't. I just checked my voicemail and I had one from a Bridal Center stating her name and phone number and telling me I had won a bridal package from registering for a bridal show at Whitehall (which is the one I registered for). She didn't give me any details of what the package consisted of she just said to call back and give her name and extension and I could claim it. That was the only call I have gotten from them. I called it back and had to leave a message with my name and phone number and her information. Should I be concerned that this is a scam or not? Obviously when I talk to them I would never give and payment info or anything like that but if they don't ask for anything would it be considered legit?

I have been to two bridal shows. My phone will NOT stop ringing! I would make sure it's not one of those cooking shows etc... Doesn't hurt to call back just be careful!

Yeah that's what a co-worker of mine said. I'm kind of thinking it's not because they have only called me once, but I'm not sure. Thanks for the feedback!

There are lots of businesses at bridal shows, and they are all trying to sell you their stuff, whether it's products, services, or trips. Many of them offer "free" stuff, or tell you that you've won a "free trip." They aren't scams in the traditional sense, but you should be wary. These are marketing ploys that companies use to get customers.

There's one out there right now that is about cookware. You agree to go to their demonstration (1 1/2 to 2 hours usually), and you get some free prizes at the end. But in between, you'll get the hard sell on the cookware. Another popular one has many prizes, one of which is a free cruise. My FH and I actually checked that one out, because we want to take a cruise for our honeymoon. Well, that one was a timeshare company. So, we'll have to sit through the timeshare presentation, and deal with the hard sell. Then, supposedly, we'll get the cruise. But I checked the fine print on that one. It only covers the basic ship fare. No extras, no amenities, and it doesn't cover the flight to Florida you'll have to take to get to the cruise ship. So, for us, it wasn't worth the time and energy required. We're just budgeting and saving for the honeymoon we want.

So, as long as you go into it knowing what you're getting, it's not a bad thing. But now that you've registered for a show (even though you didn't attend) you'll probably be getting lots of these kinds of calls/emails.

This place has finally answered my call and is called Registies Direct? Has anyone every heard of them? I still have not talked to the woman who called me but the woman who answered left a message for her to call me back. This place is in New York.
