Bridal procession for small party and short aisle

Cathy, on August 18, 2020 at 9:18 AM Posted in Wedding Ceremony 0 9

We are getting married at the restaurant we went to the night my fiance proposed. It's a beautiful steak house with a large open area and a massive chandelier - Very pretty. We are doing a Sunday Brunch with immediate family only (30 guests total) and have the entire restaurant to ourselves for the day.

I have chosen the song I would like to walk down the aisle to (I Choose You by Sara Bareilles), but my problem is that I only have a Maid of Honor (my daughter) to walk the aisle before me, making the time to play the song very limited.

When do I start the song and where do I come in? Would it be strange to let it finish while we are standing together in front of the Pastor? I kinda like that idea, but don't want it to be awkward.

All suggestions welcome! Thank you

The song normally starts when the first person walks down the aisle then ends once you join your spouse. I think it could be kind of awkward for you guys just to be standing there until the song ends. I would probably pick your favorite party of the song and start it from there.

I had the same / similar problem with our song choice, it's a 4:25 song and we actually decided to only use 2:15 of our choice. We'd let the song open about 15-30 seconds and then start the processional and having it end at 2:15. That way not making it an awkwardly long song. It gets through 2 choruses.

If you let it finish it would run on for too long
I love that song by the way Smiley smile

I agree about it being very awkward to stand at the altar while the song plays out. I'd choose a shortened version, and perhaps practice how long it will take your daughter and then you to walk the distance of the aisle. That way you can figure out the ideal time for daughter to start walking and the musical cue for when you should begin so the music ends shortly after you arrive at the altar (unless you'll have a DJ or someone who can fade it out, regardless of where the song is when you arrive). I think it is preferable for the song to begin, and then play for maybe 30 seconds before daughter starts down the aisle. Depending on the room set up and what people are doing at the time the ceremony is set to begin, it will likely take at least a few seconds before people realize things are starting -- and the music beginning will help cue them. Once they are focused, daughter can start her walk. Good luck! Smiley heart

Thank you - many good points that I had thought of too, but needed the confirmation of others to feel comfortable in my thought process.

Appreciate your input and will try to find a way to shorten the song. My fiance is a master musician and computer whiz, so I think he could figure that out.

    Good luck to you too!!

Thank you - I will have my fiance find a way to shorten it on the computer, similar to what you are doing. Find my favorite parts. He might even be able to splice the best parts together and chop out some of the music, going straight into vocals on each verse. Just love the song so I will jump through hoops to use it!

Thank you and I agree - that was my fear/dilemma: I think I will have my fiance find a way to shorten it on the computer. Find my favorite parts. Thank you for your advice and confirmation of my own feelings (the feeling awkward while it finishes). My fiance is a whiz at the computer and a musician, so I believe I will have him cut out the middle verse and that might just do it.

Thanks again for your help and Congrats!
