Bridal Portraits?

Dm, on September 22, 2019 at 6:43 AM Posted in Planning 0 7
Bridal Portraits? May be a regional thing, but wanted to get thoughts from brides doing them and how they plan to display (and I recognize doing bridal portraits may/may not be a regional thing from what I hear 🙂 !)

It is definitely a regional thing. I never heard of that until WW. I'm from PA. I asked my coworkers who are in their 60s and they had not heard of it either. No help here just wanted to let you know that lol. I've seen people's bridal portraits here and they're gorgeous!

I never heard of bridal portraits until WW either. Truthfully I don’t really get the point of paying for HMU again, putting on your dress an extra time and taking pics without your FS. What IS the point?

Definitely a regional thing. I’m from Chicago and never heard of them before WW. I think it’s a great way to use your HMUA trial though and why not get some great photos before the hustle and bustle of the big day?! From some of the BAM’s I’ve seen you can display them on the entry table or gift table. I think it just depends on the set up of your reception. Maybe use a large stand and have it near or opposite your welcome sign (if doing one).

Hi! So usually the hair/makeup trial is when brides will schedule their portrait session and many people use it to try out their bridal look to be sure they like it or if they want to tweak or add anything for the wedding day! It is more so just a relaxed shoot in your dress (: I opted not to do it and to do a boudoir session as a wedding gift for my FH instead, but many of my friends have done bridal portraits

Bridal portraits are fantastic!! So on busy wedding day, it’s easy to fall behind on things and one of the things that tend to get cut are portraits (bride alone or groom alone). I didn’t want to take that risk, so I did a bridal portrait shoot. I had my hair and makeup trial that day and had my florist make a bouquet (she so graciously only charged me cost of materials to make something similar to my wedding day bouquet). It was fun to do and I got to test out a lot of different poses and looks, something we never would have had time for on wedding day.
As for display, our venue had two large fireplaces. One fireplace was decorated with a framed bridal portrait, a framed engagement photo and a floral piece. I gifted the bridal portrait to my parents that day and said once the wedding was over it was theirs to keep. I later ordered an album of my favorite photos from the bridal portrait shoot.

I think it's regional. I've never seen them at weddings in California, Texas, Colorado, Wyoming, New Jersey or New York (haven't been to weddings elsewhere). We didn't do them.
