Bridal party backing out at the last minute!?!?

Amy, on June 7, 2014 at 10:04 PM Posted in Planning 0 8

I've heard of this happening and always thought "hmm, how odd - that must be rare." But it's happened to ME!

My FH cousin is (was) a groomsman. Yesterday he texted FH to say he couldn't because he didn't have the money to pay for the tux - we offered to pay half and still he says no. We're getting married TWO WEEKS from today! So, in a panic, FH went to Men's Warehouse to see what our options are - luckily, we were able to get one of his friends to fill in at the last minute - and this friend said yes and got fitted in the same day! I owe him bigtime!

This happened to one of my friends last year when she got married - a groomsman backed out at the last minute.

Did this happen to any of you?

I just don't understand how someone can wait until the very last minute and say "oops, sorry!"

Didnt happen last minute, and the reason behind it was very understandable, but FH's friend had to back out because he wasnt sure if he'd have drill that weekend or not. so FH chose another friend who agreed, who then backed out because he was asked to be in his cousin's wedding the same day. so the third guy for the same position has his tux paid for and has full intention of being there, but FH told me today his appendix ruptured and had emergency surgery last night for it...uhhh, awesome, ive had my gall bladder removed and ive heard the surgeries are comparable and i was definitely not 100% for a good month or two, so hopefully he can still attend. Smiley sad

but i feel for you..ive heard of this happening a lot. i guess i dont understand how people can agree to something then honestly wait so long to notify you they arent going to fulfill it...i'm sure he knew the cost of the tux months ago when your FH asked him to be a GM? he couldnt save up if he had to? gosh. like how would you feel if it was your wedding. i swear people dont understand how stressful this is until theyve gone thru it. thankfully you're able to find someone to fill in!

OMGOSH! I'm so glad I'm not the only one to go through this - but what an awful experience! And you're right.... people don't know how stressful this is until they go through it! and... at least my GM wasn't arrested! Or have to have major surgery! How awful!

Sorry that it happen to you because unfortunately it happen to me 3days ago even though my wedding is in October 18,2014.

My cousin text me saying she could not be a bridesmaid anymore because she wanted to be the maid of honor & that she was hurt that I didnt ask her to be the maid of honor and included her in my wedding decisions. I told her to think about it and I wanted her to be one of my bridesmaids and to let me know if she changes her mind. Im just hurt and bother but I also told her whatever her decision is I understand. I never thought it would happen to me.

Im so sad that she decided not to be part of my wedding.

The Thursday prior to the wedding we "lost" a flower-girl (my niece) to some horrendous, highly contagious virus. Luckily my brother (a GM) made it but his daughter and wife had to stay in CA (a plane ride away.) I was disappointed... but what can you do?

And thank the Lord they got sick BEFORE they got on a plane. Can you imagine what could have happened with a germ infested darling running around the hotel, hugging all the relatives, including the 90+ year old grammies? Yep. We dodged a bullet.
