Bridal Party Ages

Vicki, on February 28, 2020 at 4:27 PM Posted in Planning 0 11
Hey guys! So I was wondering how many of y’all are following the old school “wedding rules” for the ages of the bridal party? I’m not sure who to choose for my flower girl and ring bearer and was wondering if they had to be little kids (thinking of asking my 8 yr old nephew to be my ring bearer). Thoughts?

I’ve never heard of rules for ages of the bridal party. I say ask who you want and if they don’t want to then they can tell you that.

I've never heard of there being any rule on the age for them I guess. My sister had our grandmas as her flower girls a few years ago. I think you can have whoever you want no matter their age 😊

I don’t think there is a rule for ages. If there was, 8 still wouldn’t be too old.

That’s totally fine. My sister just had her 10 niece be a flower girl. I think any age is fine as long as the kid and parent is willing to do it!

Honestly? Eight is a wonderful age, if he wants to do it. He's old enough to understand what's going on, follow instructions, and know how much you appreciate him participating. Daughter had 2 FGs and 2 RBs, 4, 6, 8, & 10 (all siblings). Even at four, the youngest was kind of too young -- she was crawling under tables at the rehearsal and shrieking at the RD.... (Mostly parenting issues, but you can't control that!) The other kids were fine.

I didn’t think there was an age limit, until I talked to now-10-year-old nephew. He sternly informed that ring bearer was a baby job, and he was a big boy.
    Excuse me!

I'm probably not following the rules, haha. Im the oldest kid in my family, first to get married and I'm also one of the first in my group of friends so my bridesmaids/maids of honor are decently young. I just turned 22. My two younger sisters are my MOH's and they are 20 and 17. My oldest bridesmaid is 25. I have a flower girl who is about 4 or 5, and the junior bridesmaid is 8 I think. My FH 's guys are all a little older than him, one groomsmen is my parents are with a daughter my age haha. My 12 year old brother is a junior groomsmen.

If your nephew wants to do it I think 8 is great! I didn't really want a ring bearer because I was terrified of a little kid losing the ring. I had thought about asking my brother but he didn't want to be a ring bearer, so groomsman was a better fit for him.

I haven't heard of rules for bridal party ages. My 12 year old brother is going to be my ring bearer. Our 3yo daughter is our flower girl. My 12yo neice is my junior bridesmaid, my moh is 29, the beat man is 40 and the other groomsman is 38.

So, I never knew there were "rules" to the ages until I started planning my wedding.

A little backstory: My fiancé & I have been together for 8+ years (started dating Nov 1st, 2011). I'll be 25 in a few months & one of my nieces (now age 12) has been asking when FH & I are going to get married since I was 18 or 19. Her reason for asking was always because she wanted to be our flower girl. So, when we finally got engaged, I asked her to be my flower girl & she was SOOOOO excited. When people ask me who our flower girl is, I tell them my younger niece & I always hear "She's not too old for that?" "She's 12. That's too old for a flower girl!" "Shouldn't she be a Junior BM since she's 12?" etc. (Didn't even know Junior BMs were a thing until wedding planning began).

I don't care what other people consider "too old" or whatever. All that mattered to me was seeing the way her face lit up in pure excitement when I asked her.

My ring bearer will be just shy of 6 when we get married, but I definitely don't think 8 is too old! I've seen people have their daughters, nieces, aunts, grandmas & even mothers as their flower girls & vice versa for ring bearers!

I think the only thing that should matter is not their age, but their importance to you! Smiley smile

I think eight is totally fine. Besides I’ve seen those articles about grandmas being flower girls and those are so cute too aha at the end of the day it’s a role

My ring bearers are 4 and 6 and will be walking down the aisle with their mother. My MOH. Shes 31.

My flower girls are just shy of 3. They will be walking down the aisle with my cousin who said "I always wanted to be a flower girl." My cousin is 32.
    So I'm not following traditions.
