bridal hair comb PLUS veil -- how does this work comfortably?

FinallyMrsT, on May 28, 2015 at 3:58 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 15

My hair trial is in 3 weeks, and I'm trying to figure out how to wear a veil over the bridal comb I just got from Etsy (which I'm completely obsessed with!). I didn't think about the veil when I bought this, nor how the two would work together.

I found an old thread about this on WW, and the consensus was to wear the veil over the comb...but what does that mean exactly? Just stick a second comb (with the veil attached) slightly above the first one? That's what I'd assume, but it seems like it would be bulky, to have two combs.

Do people make veils that can be attached to existing combs, and then slipped back off? Obviously, I've Googled this, to no avail, so I'm guessing not. I could try making something, but I don't really need to be making my own headpiece in addition to everything else lol

How have you dealt with this / how are you planning to? I'm sure my stylist will have ideas, too, but I'd like to hear from brides.

Here's my comb, and hair inspiration

I'm not sure about your question, but I LOVE the comb!

I will probably be no help, but I'm wearing my veil on the back of my head and the hair comb will like kinda go into the side of my bun. But that's how the hair comb was designed.

I would think you'd be able to slide both the hair comb and the veil comb in together? And then just pull out the veil comb when you're ready?

I'm not a veil expert - I didn't wear one - but I think if you wore your comb in the same place as the flowers in your inspiration pic, then wore the veil up more on the top of your head, there would be enough space that the combs wouldn't interfere.

I think I would just stick the veil comb slightly above the flower comb. Is your veil one layer or two? It might be hidden a little during the ceremony but you should still be able to see it given your inspiration pic.

Ooh, I love how that looks, FutureMrsW! Will you be removing your veil after the ceremony? I would prefer to have my bridal comb over the veil, but I would definitely want to take the veil off for the reception. I'm worried it'll be a lot of fiddling around up there if the comb is holding the veil down...but I'm probably too paranoid about it.

I don't have my veil yet, as I was waiting for the arrival of my dress (which is now late and won't happen until after my trial...ugh), but it will only be one layer.

Anyone have experience removing their veil from the middle of their hairdo (ie: not at the base of a bun or ponytail)? I'm worried that it would cause issues if I stuck the veil in above the comb, and then removed it

The veil and the hairpiece are each attached to their own comb. When I bought them at the bridal shop, we were able to easily pull the veil out to see the comb by itself. As long as you pull straight up (because the prongs on the combs are smooth), you should be able to remove it without any issues.

I am planning to wear a veil and a comb....my veil is going to go closer to the crown of my head. It has a blusher, so it has to be worn at the crown, and its a cathedral-length veil, so I will only be wearing it during the ceremony. I don't think I'll have any problem taking it out, but if I do, I'll have a few extra bobby pins on hand just to pin in any stray hairs!

I had a comb on the side, and a birdcage veil directly in front of it.

Pretty! Ask your stylist. That's why they are getting $$$ instead of just $$

I love your comb! I bought one that I was thinking about putting on one side, but haven't decided if I'll do that or put above veil. I haven't played with them yet since I just bought the comb, but I would imagine you would want both combs (decorative comb and the veil comb) to be separate in case you want to remove the veil after cake cutting, dances, etc.

My veil is 2 tiers, but I was planning on putting them both back, not necessarily pulling one over my face. I'm guessing the comb placement would also be affected by veil size/placement?

I have a hair trial in a couple of weeks - but I have the same issue. I have a really pretty comb I want to wear, and then I have the single layer veil that I will be wearing as well. My hair inspiration is really similar to yours. I'm hoping the hair person will have some ideas.

I love the comb! I would probably keep the comb and veil separate, and slip one over the other as suggested in PP's pic.

ETA: OP, where did you get the comb?
